Sam LaPorta 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: The TE1

3

As the 2024 fantasy football season approaches, Sam LaPorta has quickly become the most sought-after tight end in all of fantasy football. After an all-time great rookie season, LaPorta has become the highest-drafted tight end in all formats. Now the question is, is LaPorta worth this price?

In this article, we’ll dive into LaPorta’s 2024 fantasy football outlook, analyzing his previous performances, current team dynamics, and potential for the future. We’ll explore his strengths, potential red flags, and compare him to other players around the league. Whether you’re contemplating drafting him early or trading for him in your dynasty league, this comprehensive analysis will help you decide whether LaPorta is worth his current TE1 value.

TE Sam LaPorta Fantasy Football Outlook

Heading into his second season in the NFL, LaPorta is already seen as the most valuable tight end in fantasy football. LaPorta was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He quickly showed he was a hit, seeing meaningful snaps in his first game as a rookie.

Last year, LaPorta had 889 receiving yards and 10 total touchdowns. These stats were good enough to place LaPorta as the TE1 in total points. However, LaPorta’s 14.1 PPG would have sat him at the TE3. As a rookie, these stats made LaPorta arguably the best rookie tight end in NFL history.

Fantasy Football Outlook

Heading into 2024, LaPorta is valued as the TE1 overall in all formats. His current TE1 price is too steep for the production you are buying. While LaPorta had a monster 2023, most of his value came from touchdowns.

In the fantasy football world, we can never rely on touchdowns. LaPorta led all tight ends in the NFL with ten touchdowns, four more than any other tight end. Take away four touchdowns, and LaPorta finishes as the TE4 overall. While ten touchdowns are great, that number will almost definitely go down in 2024.

By no means is LaPorta a bad fantasy asset, he is just not worth his current second-round ADP in redraft leagues. Mark Andrews, Trey McBride, and Dalton Kincaid are all tight ends available several rounds after LaPorta. Save your premium draft capital and wait a few rounds on a tight end!

If you want to use premium capital on a tight end, don’t get cute and draft Travis Kelce. While Kelce is aging, he will remain the number one passing option for the Kansas City Chiefs. LaPorta will always play second fiddle to superstar wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Dynasty Football Outlook

In dynasty fantasy football leagues, LaPorta is the consensus TE1 according to Keep Trade Cut, priced as the #23 overall asset in non-tight end premium leagues. His #23 overall ADP puts him 20 draft spots higher than the next highest tight end. While LaPorta is young and a great asset, he is not worth taking 20 spots higher than the second tight end taken.

In dynasty leagues, players will have to decide between LaPorta or elite wide receivers like AJ Brown or Puka Nacua. Take the cornerstone wide receiver, and wait a few rounds to grab McBride, Andrews, or Kincaid.

If you currently have LaPorta, look to move him for any of the above tight ends and get yourself a plus on top!

Conclusion

Overall, LaPorta is a fantastic player who will be one of the best tight ends in the league for years to come. But for both redraft and dynasty league purposes, he is a massive avoid. While the talent is undeniable, there is no reason LaPorta should be priced where he is. Let your league mates take him early, while you reap the benefits all season long.
