New York Giants beat writer Kim Jones is reporting RB Saquon Barkley will not sign the franchise tag.

Fantasy Football Outlook: It comes as no surprise that Barkey is electing not to sign the franchise tag, for now. If he does not sign it, however, he is forced to sit out of off-season workouts that are slated to begin this week.

Although Barkley is coming off of a bounce-back season in 2022 where he accumulated north of 1,650 total yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 4.7 yards per touch, the Giants do not want to sign the 26-year-old all-purpose rusher to a long-term deal.

However, Barkley still has some juice left if he can stay healthy. Last season, he was the RB5 with 17.8 FPPG. He also managed 1,014 yards created and 86 evaded tackles, good for fifth and sixth best amongst his peers respectively.

If Barkley sits out, which is within the range of outcomes, the Giants’ offense overall could grow stale. Daniel Jones played well last season, but the threat of Barkley certainly opened things up for the rest of the offense. It would be in the team’s best interest to find a way to keep Barkley happy and in the building, even if it is for 2023 alone.
