Scouting the Nation: Big Ten Prospects

In this edition of Scouting the Nation, we take a look at a Penn State rusher with tremendous talent, as well as one of the top guards in the country.

Amin Vanover DE Penn State

The first thing that stands out in Amin Vanover‘s film is his length. He has long arms that allow him to get into offensive tackles’ chests and convert speed to power. Vanover is also quick and does a great job of shooting the B-Gap when tackles overset. There is a lot to like as a rusher, and Vanover is just scratching the surface of what he can become.

Furthermore, with Vanover’s length and play strength, he should develop into a good run defender at the next level as well. Playing behind some phenomenal rushers at Penn State has prevented Vanover from breaking out, but he will with a larger role next season. Whenever he was on the field, Vanover constantly flashed tremendous upside. With more snaps next season, Vanover will show why he is worthy of being a high draft pick.

Emmanuel Pregnon OG USC

A Wyoming transfer, Emmanuel Pregnon transitioned really well to the Pac-12 last season. As a run blocker, Pregnon showed off excellent movement skills. Additionally, he was impressive as a puller, where his foot speed and ability to displace defenders showed up routinely. On down blocks, Pregnon’s power and clamp strength allowed him to finish defenders. There were several wow blocks in the run game on Pregnon’s film.

Overall, in pass protection, Pregnon was very consistent. His foot quickness, anchor, and being a natural knee bender made it difficult for defenders to win one-on-one reps against him. Finally, he has great size, athleticism, and play strength. When it’s all said and done, don’t be surprised if he ends up as a day one starting guard in the NFL.
