We’ve been on a hot streak lately, cashing in on three of our past four wagers (+ 1.61 units) over that span, so let’s say hot with my favorite best bet between the Philadelphia Flyers (11-10-3) and St. Louis Blues (11-12-1) from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Our best bet between Philadelphia and St. Louis will target the Under on the game total, on a single-unit wager.

The total for this matchup is currently set at 6, meaning professional oddsmakers and sportsbooks are predicting a relatively low-scoring affair between two inter-conference opponents.

After a poor start to the 2024-25 NHL campaign, there’s a new sheriff in town in the Midwest. Jim Montgomery, who was let go in Boston, has taken the reins in St. Louis and has guided the Blues to back-to-back victories in his first two games behind the bench.

During those games, the Blues conceded just two goals, including a phenomenal 31-save shutout from Jordan Binnington, against the high-flying New Jersey Devils on Wednesday evening.

Furthermore, much of both teams’ early season lulls can be attributed to their lack of goal-scoring. To date, the Blues are averaging just 2.50 Goals-For/Game (29th), while the Flyers score 2.79 Goals-For/Game (22nd).

From an advanced statistics/analytics standpoint, both Philadelphia and St. Louis have struggled to generate offense thus far this year ranking 25th and 24th in hockey respectively in xGoals%. The Flyers also rank 29th in Shot Attempts – Corsi% (44.83%), with the Blues ranking 25th (47.75%), per MoneyPuck.

Both teams have also struggled in the special teams department. Notably, Philadelphia firing at a mere 16.5% efficiency rate (25th), while the Blues are firing at a minuscule 14.8% (30th). Additionally, St. Louis also ranks 20th in Penalty-Killing Efficiency (78.1%).

In terms of recent betting trends, both Philadelphia and St. Louis have combined for under six goals in nine of their past 12 games. Ultimately, this translates to a whopping 75% success/hit rate.

This particular wager also possesses some significant +EV, as the game total is listed at 5.5 at Betano Sportsbook. Once again, we see the underlying value of locking in a bet before prospective betting markets can make adjustments.

Overall, look for a hotly-contested matchup today. This should be a tight-checking matchup this evening between the Flyers and Blues that sees less than six total goals at a decent (-115) price point. This wraps up our free NHL picks and predictions today.
