Free NHL Picks and Predictions Today – Flyers vs. Panthers
Our best bet between Philadelphia and Florida will target Panthers winger Sam Reinhart to exceed 2.5 shots on goal, on a single-unit wager.
The total for this matchup is 6.5, meaning oddsmakers and betting markets are anticipating a high-scoring encounter between two teams on opposite sides of the Eastern Conference standings in the early part of the 2024-25 NHL campaign.
Winners of six-consecutive games, the Panthers have shown absolutely zero signs of a Stanley Cup hangover. They owe much of their early season success to the aforementioned Reinhart.
From a statistical standpoint, the West Vancouver, British Columbia native has 22 points through 14 games (1.57 points-per-game). Additionally, a 53% Corsi-For Percentage, 32 shots on goal, and a plus-13 rating in 20:02 worth of ice time. Per Pro Hockey Reference.
The former 2nd overall selection at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has also posted some impressive advanced metrics. Notably, ranking first on the Panthers in both Goals Above Expected (6) and Shooting Percentage on Unblocked Shots Above Expected (12.5%), and fourth in both Shots on Goal per 60 Minutes (8.35) and Shot Attempts per 60 Minutes (14.55).
On the other end of the rink, Philadelphia has struggled mightily defensively. So far, they’re ranking 31st in hockey in Goal-Differential (-22), 27th in Expected Goal-Differential (-4.94), and 29th in Goals-Against per 60 Minutes (3.36), per Money Puck.
This evening, Reinhart is expected to feature on Paul Maurice’s top line alongside star centerman Aleksander Barkov and the speedy Evan Rodrigues
He’s also presumed to play the half-wall alongside Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe, on the Cats power-play which currently ranks 11th in the NHL at an 18.52% efficiency-rate, which should provide him with plenty of good looks and prime opportunities to generate offense.
In terms of game script, Florida opens up as (-270) home moneyline favorites. Additionally, a massive 72.97% implied-win probability. This means that the Cats are expected to dictate tempo, play with the lead, and buzz around the Flyers crease all game long.
It’s also important to note that Reinhart has surpassed this shot prop in four of his past five games. Ultimately, accounting for a terrific 80% success/hit rate.
Look for Reinhart to hit his point prop tonight at an adequate (-145) price point.
