NBA Best Bet of the Day – Pistons vs. Wizards

Our best bet between Detroit and Washington will target an alternative wager on the Wizards’ team total in points, currently set at 113.5.

The total for this game is 228.5, with the Pistons as five-point road favorites, signifying professional oddsmakers and betting markets are predicting a relatively high-scoring matchup, with Detroit coming out on top.

After a miserable 14-68 (.171) overall record a season ago, the Pistons are a much-improved team under the tutelage of Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who in his first season in charge has led Detroit to a respectable 6-8 (.429) record through 14 games, good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Much of the Pistons’ success in the early onset of 2024-25 stems from their terrific advanced analytics/metrics on the defensive side of the ball. As a team, Detroit ranks eighth in basketball in Defensive Efficiency (1.076), and third in Opponent Fastbreak Efficiency (1.524). Additionally, they rank sixth in Opponents’ Shooting Percentage (44.9%).

The Wizards, on the other hand, have struggled thus far this season. Specifically, struggling from the perimeter. As a team, Washington sits 25th in the NBA in Team Shooting Percentage (44%), 24th in Effective Shooting Percentage (50.8%), and 29th in Offensive Efficiency (1.028), per NBA Team Rankings.

It’s also important to note that the Pistons have held their opponents to under 113.5 points in five of their past eight contests. Accounting for a solid 62.5% success/hit rate. Meanwhile, the Wizards have failed to score north of 113 points in five of their past seven games (71.4% success/hit rate).

In addition, Detroit is the five-point road favorites and (-205) odds to win outright. That carries with it a substantial 67.21% implied-win probability. In this sense, Detroit is expected to play with the lead and control the tempo of the game.

Look for a vastly improved Pistons team to keep the Wizards under 113.5 total points at an adequate (-140) price point. This wraps up today’s NBA best bet of the day between the Pistons and the Wizards.
