NFL Player Prop Bets Week 16: SNF Buccaneers vs. Cowboys

Week 16 of the 2024 NFL regular season is here. Hopefully, bettors came away with more money in their pockets than they started last week with. However, the grind never stops. So, let’s not waste any time and get down to business.

We have a matchup on Sunday night between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys. While fans will have their eyes glued to the game, watching every play with the utmost attention, sports bettors only care about making money. However, which prop bets will lead to cash in their pockets? Here are my five favorite prop bets for Sunday night’s game.

All props are from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Cooper Rush Over 224.5 Passing Yards (-135)

Many wrote the Cowboys off for dead after losing Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury in Week 9. However, the team has won three of their past four games, including a victory over a likely playoff Washington Commanders squad. While he struggled in his first start this year, Rush has played well since that poor performance. The veteran has averaged 238.6 passing yards per game over the past five weeks, totaling 247 or more twice.

Furthermore, Dallas is letting Rush throw the ball. He has averaged 36.6 pass attempts per game over his past five starts. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers have surrendered the fourth-most passing yards to quarterbacks, giving up 265.1 per game. They have allowed quarterbacks to total 243 or more passing yards in 57.1% of their games, including seven of their past 10 contests. The Cowboys will likely be chasing points in this game, leading to more opportunities for Rush.

Baker Mayfield Over 239.5 Passing Yards (-115)

While Mayfield has five interceptions over the past three weeks, the veteran quarterback has been one of the league’s top passers. He has averaged 258.4 passing yards per game this season, his highest mark since his rookie year. Mayfield has had 285 or more passing yards in 57.1% of the games, including six of the past nine contests. Furthermore, the star quarterback has been on fire since the Buccaneers’ Week 11 bye.

The former Oklahoma star has averaged 278 passing yards per game over the past month, totaling 288 or more in all but one contest, including back-to-back outings. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have surrendered the 10th-most passing yards to quarterbacks entering Week 16, allowing 239 per game. However, they’ve struggled against talented quarterbacks lately. Dallas has surrendered 369 passing yards to Joe Burrow, 275 to Jayden Daniels, and 257 to C.J. Stroud over the past five weeks.

Rico Dowdle Over 69.5 Rushing Yards (-130)

Dowdle has averaged 67.7 rushing yards per game despite splitting the backfield work with Ezekiel Elliott for most of the season. However, the veteran running back has been outstanding as the featured guy. He has averaged 113 rushing yards per game in the five contests with 13 or more attempts this year. Furthermore, Dowdle has been on fire lately, averaging 21 rushing attempts for 119.5 yards per game over the past month.

Last week, the veteran running back had 25 rushing attempts for 149 yards in the win over the Carolina Panthers, setting career highs in both categories. Unfortunately, his matchup on Sunday night isn’t as friendly. Yet, the Buccaneers’ run defense has had some issues this season. They’ve surrendered 80.7 rushing yards per game to running backs. Tampa Bay has allowed running backs to have 73 or more rushing yards in 57.1% of their matchups.

Jalen McMillan Over 36.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Some thought McMillan could be a star early in his rookie season. However, he has averaged 27.9 receiving yards per game this year. Yet, the former Washington star has averaged 41 receiving yards per game since Chris Godwin’s season-ending ankle injury. Furthermore, McMillan has been productive when seeing enough volume in the passing game. He has averaged 46 receiving yards per game in the four contests with four or more targets this season.

More importantly, the rookie has recently become a key part of the Buccaneers’ offense. McMillan has averaged 4.5 receptions for 67 receiving yards per game over the past two weeks, totaling 59 or more yards in both contests. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have surrendered the sixth-most receiving yards per game to wide receivers entering Week 16 (157.4). They’ve given up 41 or more receiving yards to five wide receivers in the past two games.

CeeDee Lamb Over 69.5 Receiving Yards (-135)

Many thought Lamb would struggle without Dak Prescott. Yet, he has averaged 77.8 receiving yards per game this year. More importantly, the superstar averaged 73.3 receiving yards per game in Prescott’s nine starts. By comparison, Lamb has averaged 71.5 receiving yards per game in Cooper Rush’s six starts, including 81.6 per contest over his past five. The former Oklahoma star has been on fire lately, totaling 93 or more receiving yards in back-to-back contests.

Meanwhile, Lamb has an excellent matchup on Sunday night against a struggling and injured Buccaneers secondary. Tampa Bay will be without top defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. because of a knee injury. Meanwhile, they have surrendered the 10th-most receiving yards to wide receivers entering Week 16, giving up 154 per game, including 99 to Adam Thielen a few weeks ago. Don’t be surprised if Lamb has his third consecutive game with 90 or more receiving yards.
