Monday night in the National Hockey League features a small, three-game slate. However, there is still ample opportunity to cash in on various wagers. Let’s take a deep dive and examine my NHL best bet of the day between the Anaheim Ducks (10-12-3) and Montreal Canadiens (10-14-3). This matchup is being held the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

All NHL odds and lines are current as of Sunday, December 8th, at 7:00 PM, EST, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

NHL Best Bet of the Day – Ducks vs. Canadiens

Domenic Lunardo’s 2024-25 NHL Betting Record: 9-11-0 (- 3.17 Units)

Bet Name: MTL Canadiens 3-Way Moneyline (To Win in Regulation)
Sportsbook: DraftKings
Odds: (+105)
Wager: 1 Unit

Our best bet between Anaheim and Montreal will target the Canadiens. Specifically, for them to win the game in 60 minutes (regulation time) on home ice, on a single-unit wager.

The total for this matchup is currently set at 6. This means that betting markets and oddsmakers are predicting a relatively high-scoring matchup. Additionally, this matchup features the two last-place teams in their respective divisions.

Winners of two of their past three games, the Habs received a major boost to their lineup last week when Patrik Laine made his triumphant debut in Montreal. In his first three games in La Belle Province, the Finnish sniper registered two goals, nine shots on goal, 15 shot attempts, and logged 17:09 worth of ice time. Impressively, he provided the Habs with a much-needed shot in the arm amongst their top-six forward core.

Tonight, Montreal will be going up against a Ducks team that has scored extremely low across a wide range of advanced metrics and analytics. Notably, Anaheim ranks dead-last in hockey in both Expected Goals% (43.46%) and Expected Goals Against per 60 Minutes (3.06). Additionally, they are 30th in Shot Attempts – Corsi% (45.29%), via MoneyPuck.

Unfortunately, the Ducks will also be without both Leo Carlsson and Trevor Zegras. Further ailing an already porous offense that ranks 30th in the NHL in both Goals-For per Game (2.44) and Goals Scored at 5-on-5 (68).

On the other side of the ice, and in lieu of their struggles thus far in 2024-25, Montreal is shooting at a solid 11.4% rate. Notably, that ranks ninth in the NHL. Additionally, they have a terrific 83% Penalty-Killing Efficiency Rate, which ranks fifth in the league.

Finally, Montreal also enters play this evening with (-150) odds to win outright. This carries with it a substantial 60% implied-win probability. In this sense, the Habs are expected to play with the lead and dictate tempo throughout the course of the game.

Look for Montreal to prevail victorious in regulation time at an excellent (+105) price point for our NHL best bet of the day.
