Top 10 Ugliest NFL Jerseys of All Time

0

Have you ever turned on an NFL game and said “What were they thinking?” Yeah, me too. There have been many times throughout my many years of watching football when I just shook my head. Along with that, some of the Color Rush jerseys made it hard to focus on the TV because it just hurt my eyes.

Someone in the design room thought that these jerseys would be great to wear and a good marketing plan to get more sales. From the likes of the Color Rush as I mentioned above, to the alternates, and even the old throwback uniforms. Do some people like them? Just because I don’t like them doesn’t mean someone else does. Again, you can enjoy them, but I have a hard time agreeing as I’m sure a majority would be on my side with this.

Here are my Top 10 Ugliest NFL Jerseys of  All Time:

10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2014-2019 Jerseys

Best Buccaneers New Uniform Ideas

Kicking off this list of ugly jerseys is a jersey that we saw for many years, not too long ago. The more I look at this uniform, the worse it gets. If you glance at the jerseys you will miss it. You might not think they’re terrible. but if you look at the numbers on them, you will see that they look exactly like alarm clock numbers. Too bad they don’t glow in the dark, but man thank goodness they changed them right before Tom Brady joined the team. If not, this team would probably suck! Just kidding!

9. New York Jets 2007-2011 Throwbacks

Could Jets throwback jerseys return under new NFL rule?

I was stuck between these ones and the black ones, but then looking at the black ones again my choice was easy. These jerseys, let alone the pants are just hard to stomach. They look like the colors you see in the bathroom. It’s like a kid wanted to make a joke uniform and this is what they came up with. The brown numbers with the name against that blue are a no to me for wanting to watch them. Thank goodness they haven’t worn these in over 10 years and hopefully, we can keep it that way.

8. Houston Texans 2007-2010 Home Alternates

Other seasons where Texans had 1 prime time game or fewer

For those of us who like the Color Rush uniforms now, remember the old “alternative” red ones the Texans wore for three seasons? When I first saw them, I thought they were alright. After a while though, as the TV picture quality improved, the uniforms were getting to be a little much. It’s just too much red going on. It would have been better to use them sparingly because the more I saw them, the more I didn’t like them. Blue numbers and all red with a blue helmet. Liked it at first, but as it grew on me watching it, I had enough.

7. Seattle Seahawks 2009 Alternates

CHI v SEA 09-27-09

The Seattle Seahawks had a rough time through the early 2000s with multiple years of bad jerseys. The 2016 Color Rush is really bad as it looks like green highlighters running around. I’m going back to what it originated from in the 2009 alternatives that added the neon green to. People thought it was an internet hoax about adding the neon green color. Nope, it wasn’t. They kept the blue on the sleeves which made no sense and then added the numbers in not blue but white. Adding to this were the blue pants. The jersey scheme was just bad. Thankfully, they scraped these uniforms after the season.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers 2012-2016 Home ‘Bumblebee’ Throwbacks

Pittsburgh throwback jerseys: the best, the worst and the ugly | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Here we are when the uniforms really started going downhill. Another 1934 throwback that was expected to be worn only in 2012 to celebrate 80 years of Steelers, yet it went on three years longer than it should have. The Steelers looked more like bumblebees on the field than football players. It was just funny in general just watching them run out on the field with these on. Anytime the opposing team would have the ball, it just looked like a swarm of bees tackling them. Together with this was just how the numbers on the front and back were boxed out with each number in it.

Additionally, the name on the back just blended in with the jersey itself. If they wanted to do the real throwback, they should have made it the sweater in which it was then. In short, the pads, and sweaters worn back then wouldn’t work out well in today’s NFL. So this is the best they could do.

5. Chicago Bears Orange and Blue (1920s Jerseys) in 1994

NFL: The worst uniforms worn by every team

Speaking of stripes, this one I really had to go back in time to find it. It was back in 1994 that the Chicago Bears wore these 1920s uniforms and let’s just say this wasn’t their best time to bring these back. I look at these things and think it’s more of a throwback for the referees as it’s pinstriped just like them. Not only this but the numbers on the front upper right by the top of the shoulder looked more like a soccer jersey. Thankfully, once you got past the front, the backside looked like that of a better present-day one. But still, it’s for sure ugly.

4. Green Bay Packers 2011 Home Throwbacks

Similar to that of the New York Jets, but what in the world Green Bay? Nothing better than a blue jersey with a yellow circle and the number cut out in the center of the front and solid yellow on the back. The jersey was mesh and what really made it worse was the brown helmets and the beige pants. It’s like here are some colors, make it work Back in the day the helmets were just leather caps, so the helmets simulated that.

Thankfully, the Packers updated these in 2016 back to the yellow helmet and a two-tone jersey with it being yellow from shoulder to shoulder and blue for the lower bit of the jersey with yellow numbers. A better version of the 2011 throwbacks, which I hope to never see again.

3. Jaguars Color Rush “Bold Gold” 2015

NFL Week 11: Robinson among the good from Jags' win over Titans - Sports Illustrated

When the Color Rush segment came out for Thursday Night Football, a lot of the jerseys looked really cool and stood out. Others, well they should have just never come out. In 2015, the Jacksonville Jaguars came out in what they called “Bold Gold”. It was a uniform that was head to toe all one color outside of the black shoulder sleeve and white numbers.

On TV these jerseys looked nothing like gold. They actually looked like a baby’s diaper after they ate butternut squash. How do I know this? I have three children and have had my share of changing diapers. It just looked too familiar and these jerseys should never be brought back ever again.

2. Denver Broncos 2009 Throwbacks

Denver Broncos three ugliest uniforms in franchise history - Page 3

Coming here in second place are the Denver Broncos’ 2009 throwbacks. During the 2009 season, the Broncos celebrated their 50th NFL season and brought back their home and away jerseys from the 1960-1961 season. You look at these jerseys and you would either think you were watching a college football team like the Wyoming Cowboys or even a resemblance of something the Washington Commanders would have as a throwback. The away jerseys were just as bad, because of the brown pants. Let’s hope these throwbacks don’t make it back.

1. Philadelphia Eagles 2007 Throwbacks

Philadelphia-Eagles-2007-Throwbacks-ugly

The Philadelphia Eagles have many cool uniforms but these ones were the worst of theirs. These 1934 uniforms being bright powder blue and gold were just hideous. Not only were the colors too much, but in the sunlight, you even had a hard time reading the last name, let alone the numbers. The shiny fabric just had that cheap look to it. When the players sweat or got water on their jerseys, it just held it and didn’t dry well.

Furthermore, the jerseys just looked like a bad knockoff that you paid $20 for. Sometimes when things are part of the fast, maybe it’s just best to be left there. These 1934 throwbacks for the Philadelphia Eagles take the number spot on my list of Top 10 Ugliest NFL Jerseys of All Time.
