Travis Kelce 2024 Fantasy Outlook – No Longer the TE1?

Travis-Kelce-2024-Fantasy-Outlook-No-Longer-the-TE1

The 2024 fantasy football season is still a few months away. However, before fantasy players realize it, they will be knee-deep in redraft league drafts. Every year, the fantasy football community looks for the perfect late-round tight end to draft. Sam LaPorta was a massive success in 2023, ending his rookie season as the TE1 in half-point PPR scoring despite being a late-round pick.

Yet, we will talk about the guy he replaced as the TE1 in most fantasy rankings – Travis Kelce. The future Hall of Famer could have retired alongside his brother Jason Kelce this offseason. However, the superstar tight end says he has plenty of gas left in the tank and wants to keep playing. The question fantasy players must answer is whether or not the veteran is a smart investment this year.

In this article, I’ll break down Kelce’s 2024 fantasy football outlook for both redraft leagues and dynasty fantasy football purposes. Additionally, I will dive into the pros and cons of drafting him this upcoming season. Let’s get right into it.

TE Travis Kelce Fantasy Value

Kelce was the clear-cut TE1 drafted in fantasy football leagues the past several seasons. He had three straight years with nine or more touchdowns before last season, including a career-high 12 in 2022. Notably, he’s being talked about as one of the greatest tight ends of all time. Furthermore, the veteran had over 1,000 receiving yards in nine consecutive years. Unfortunately, the streak was snapped last season, missing the mark by 16 receiving yards. While he was the TE3, Kelce had the same fantasy points per game average as LaPorta (11.5).

Fantasy Football Outlook

While fantasy players shouldn’t name Kelce the clear-cut TE1 this year, the veteran is in the mix to be the first tight end drafted. The future Hall of Famer was outstanding during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl run, averaging eight receptions on 9.3 targets for 88.8 receiving yards, 0.8 touchdowns, and 17.5 fantasy points per game.

Fantasy players hated seeing Kelce dominate during the playoffs after he struggled at the end of the regular season. However, the veteran was playing through multiple injuries. More importantly, the Chiefs could limit his workload during the 2024 regular season to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Furthermore, Kansas City loaded up on wide receivers this offseason, adding Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy to pair with Rashee Rice.

Dynasty Football Outlook

Dynasty fantasy players are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Kelce. The superstar should remain a top-five tight end in 2024 and 2025. However, he could retire after the upcoming season, especially if the Chiefs win another Super Bowl. Therefore, it’s time to move on from Kelce, especially for non-top-tier teams. I would happily accept an early second-round rookie pick in superflex leagues for the future Hall of Famer.

Conclusion

Fantasy players must weigh Kelce’s 2024 postseason success against his regular season failures. I would draft LaPorta over the veteran tight end. He plays on an equally impressive offense but has less competition for targets and is 11 years younger. However, Kelce is in the mix to be the TE2 in my rankings and off the board. While fantasy players could argue for taking Trey McBride, Dalton Kincaid, or Mark Andrews over Kelce, it’s hard to pass on the future Hall of Famer after his postseason performance.
