Trey McBride Fantasy Outlook 2024 – TE1 Overall Upside?

5

Fresh off a breakout 2023 campaign, Trey McBride finished as TE7 in PPR leagues in 2024. He recorded 81 catches for 825 yards and three touchdowns. Initially jumping out to a slow start, the 24-year-old posted just six receptions through the first month of the season. However, following a quad injury to Zach Ertz, the Colorado State product saw an expanded role in the Arizona Cardinals offense. Now, the third-year tight end has a ton of fantasy football upside. Today, I’ll be breaking down the Trey McBride fantasy football outlook for 2024 and in dynasty leagues.

Highlighted by an 8-131 performance in a win over the Atlanta Falcons, from Week 8 on, McBride was TE3. The former John Mackey Award winner averaged over 60 receiving yards a game. Expected to remain a top target in the Cardinal’s passing game with the return of Kyler Murray, should McBride be in the mix as a top-five fantasy tight end? Let’s get into the value and outlook for him for 2024 and for dynasty fantasy football purposes.

TE Trey McBride Fantasy Outlook

One of the most productive college players during his Senior season, McBride posted 90 catches for 1,121 yards. Showing flashes of that elite production a year ago, he finished sixth in catches (81) and seventh in receiving yards (825) at his position. This was despite playing with multiple quarterbacks in the absence of Murray.

Firmly in the mix to be the first tight end off the board behind Travis Kelce and Sam LaPorta, the one-time Unanimous All-American should once again see a significant target share under offensive coordinator Drew Petzig. Running the most tight-end-friendly scheme in the league in 2023, the Cardinals targeted the position on 32% of their passing plays.

Trey McBride Fantasy Outlook (2024)

Arizona selected Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick in April’s NFL Draft. The Ohio State product is one of the best wide receiver prospects in recent memory. He should cut into McBride’s target share. However, only 55 players have seen 100 targets in their rookie season. This means that even with the addition of Harrison Jr., McBride should still see enough volume for high-end fantasy production.

Furthermore, his touchdown numbers should also increase. Despite ranking 13th among TEs in red zone targets (15) and 10th in expected TDs (4.9) in 2023, the former second-round pick scored just three times.

Trey McBride Dynasty Football Outlook

McBride should be a mainstay among the top three tight ends in dynasty league football for the foreseeable future. The one-time Second-team All-Mountain West member was second among all tight ends in receptions (69) and third in receiving yards (684) during the final 11 games of the season. Meanwhile, he also ranked second in target rate per route run (27.2%) and third in air share (34.5%).

A compelling asset for those managers looking to secure a long-term difference-maker at the position, the Fort Morgan High School alumnus has substantial efficiency and usage metrics. Furthermore, he also has an attachment to a star quarterback in, Murray. Needless to say, his long-term outlook in the NFL and for your dynasty squads is looking great.

Conclusion

McBride has an ADP of 73 in our fantasy football rankings, making him TE5. As we have seen, he has rare movement skills at 6’4. This could help lead to even more fantasy success in the future and in 2024. Moreover, the former Senior Bowl standout has the easiest strength of schedule for tight ends, according to FantasyPros.

With the upside of leading the position in scoring, target him as early as round four in full PPR formats. Overall, he has a ton of upside and is certainly a valuable fantasy asset for 2024 and beyond.
