Virginia Tech Hokies Football – 2025 NFL Draft Preview

0

The Virginia Tech Hokies football team finished with a 7-6 record in 2023, putting them in the middle of the pack for the ACC. With that being said, there is a tremendous amount of optimism for Virginia Tech in 2024. Several college football pundits have chosen them as a sleeper team to make the ACC Championship. Whether you’re a hardcore college football fan, looking at the 2025 NFL Draft, or looking to bolster your Devy rosters, this is for you.

I’ll go one step further in saying they have a legitimate chance to make the College Football Playoff. Head Coach Brent Pry has rebuilt the Hokies program, and it starts with quarterback Kyron Drones. Virginia Tech didn’t have anyone drafted last April, but that should drastically change this year. The Hokies could end up with close to ten draft picks. Here is an early look at the top prospects on the most slept-on team in the nation.

2025 NFL Draft Preview: Virginia Tech Hokies Football

Kyron Drones QB, Virginia Tech Hokies Football

The most underrated quarterback in the country, Kyron Drones has the talent to contend for the Heisman trophy. He possesses an elite arm and can make any throw to all levels of the field. His deep passes don’t die on him, and Drones can uncork the ball. He is excellent when throwing on the move to the right, where he flashes pinpoint accuracy.

As a runner, Drones will step in and be in the top five in the league from day one. His contact balance is fantastic, but Drones has the speed to take it to the house on any play. There will be competitions between Jalen Hurts and Cam Newton with Drones, and he has the tools to reach that really high ceiling.

Mansoor Delane CB, Virginia Tech Hokies Football

I’ve written a lot about Mansoor Delane as a potential first-round pick, and even though it is a loaded cornerback class, I think he gets there. He has size, length, speed, and fluidity. Whether playing as an outside cornerback or safety, he displays explosiveness and impressive closing burst to make plays on the football. Delane will be a day one starter on the outside, with the versatility to also move inside and man the slot if needed.

Jaylin Lane WR, Virginia Tech Hokies Football

An undersized wideout, Jaylin Lane wins with speed to take the top off the defense. He should run in the 4.3s at the combine and is also a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Virginia Tech tries to manufacture touches for him, and Lane is very good after the catch. He lacks the catch radius to make difficult receptions, and Lane must get crisper as a route runner, but there is a lot to like about him. He projects as a day-two pick who will be a slot receiver in the NFL.

Dorian Strong CB, Virginia Tech Hokies Football

Another cornerback, Dorian Strong, has played a lot of football throughout his career at Virginia Tech. After a promising freshman season, Strong has been a solid starter on the outside. There were some questions about his ball skills coming into the 2023 season, but he got his hands on the ball a few times and was much better in that department.

Furthermore, Strong be best in man coverage at the next level. That’s where he’ll get the most out of his length and long speed. Strong didn’t give up much in coverage on film. Notably, he was never beaten for big plays and was consistent all season. Strong also projects as a top 100 pick and could go as high as the second round.

Da’Quan Felton WR, Virginia Tech Hokies Football

A Norfolk State transfer, Da’Quan Felton was an unbelievable find in the portal for the Hokies. He has legitimate size and blazing speed for over 200 pounds. Additionally, Felton is that true size/speed weapon who is still figuring things out as a wideout. He’s best when used vertically, where he can stack cornerbacks and separate from them deep.

Moreover, Felton’s hands must get better, as he had too many drops last season. If he can play like he did in the last three regular-season games all of next year, Felton will easily be a third-round pick. The technical side needs some improvement, but at worst, Felton will be an early day-three pick.
