Waiver Wire Pickups for IDP Fantasy Football – Week 13
We’re bringing on some of the most notable IDP waiver wire pickups for fantasy football leagues in Week 13. There could be NFL players who should or could be available at different format levels each week. Ultimately, this allows us to either start them in Week 12 or stash them on your bench for next time. Or simple enough, if we have the room or the expendables on our benches. Either way, we can get ahead and stack our depth deeper if at all possible for the fantasy football season long haul. Let’s get right into it.
Waiver Wire Pickups for IDP Fantasy Football – Week 12
Carl Granderson (DE) New Orleans Saints
- Week 13 @ Detriot Lions – Solid
- Week 14 vs. Carolina Panthers – Sold
- Week 15 vs. New York Giants – Strong
By now the Saints’s DE Carl Granderson isn’t as obscure as he was coming into the season. Although checking in on his dynasty rostered percentage we’re not so sure it’s up to par as Granderson is. As for redrafts, that’ll depend on how shallow a standard format might go. And it’s worth a check in any format to see if this little-recognized DL before the season is a free agent, or obtainable. Granderson is no longer under the radar as a top 12 option so far this season in leagues and most scoring formats. However, he has cooled off in recoding sacks this later half of the season. So it’s possible, he could be available in quite a few standardized leagues. And worth the look as we head into the fantasy football playoffs.
Granderson has only been blitzed once in 11 games, according to Pro Football Reference. Despite that, he has 5.5 sacks but hasn’t recorded many QB knockdowns (8) or QB hurries (3). However, Granderson has excelled as a top-12 DL in base tackle production. A rarity among defensive ends in this day and modern age. And even among those well-known edge rushers that everyone knows. So far, this season Granderson has 54 combined tackles, with 31 solos and 23 assisted tackles. Although he does show his natural ability as a pass rusher. Recording 14 QB hits, while averaging nearly 3 solos and slightly over 2 assists per game.
As a defensive end, Granderson has already anchored many managers’ deeper rosters this year. Also, he is likely currently sitting as a top 12 DL in points average across the board. Making him a DL1 and DE1 player in almost all formats. As well as a solid DL2 play with upside versus the Lions at home in week 12. If nothing else, just based on his combined tackle average and 80% or better snap count each contest. Another rarity this year among the 2023 NFL top 16 DL players. Following that up with the Panthers and the Giants. When he’ll have DL1 value with upside and two top 10 matchups on paper.
Blake Cashman (ILB) Houston Texans
- Week 13 vs. Denver Broncos – Strong
- Week 14 @ New York Jets – Solid
- Week 15 @ Tennessee Titans – Solid
Another under-rostered IDP who has emerged is ILB Blake Cashman of the Texans. He has overachieved after getting a chance to start due to injuries, after starting as a depth piece. Since Week 5, Cashman has been performing exceptionally well. Averaging 11 combined tackles and adding nine tackles for a loss to his box score. As well as recording multiple passes defended and other outlier-type IDP stats. However, there is a catch. Cashman’s consistency is a little concerning. He records fewer than nine tackles per game every other week thus far as a full-time starter. And adding standout and Big performances in between those contests.
Nonetheless, he continues to overachieve even in poorer matchups. Therefore, the under on the nine total tackles is actually stronger than one might think. And heading into Week 13 versus the Broncos (Top 10) last few weeks, there has not been much of a Houston pass rush. Cashman has a low LB1 floor and upside to one of those outlier 10-plus tackle games. Over the last 5 contests, Denver has allowed solid LB1 numbers to both opponents ILB, if full-time players. Or even mixed and matched with a couple of games with 3 ILBs getting the production to hit an LB1 status.
Furthermore, not to mention the numerous tackles for loss that Cashman seems to have a knack for recording. This will also lock him in even when the matchups are not so strong as he brings his own upside with a PFF grade of 88.9 (elite). It’s a very favorable waiver wire pickup and one move that will help win our way into the plays in most redrafts.
Mykal Walker (ILB) Pittsburgh Steelers
- Week 13 vs. Arizona Cardinals – Strong
- Week 14 @ New England Patriots – Solid
- Week 15 @ Indianapolis Colts – Sold
Talk about a huge opportunity. Especially when the Steelers had a former veteran starter on the practice squad. Though be it it was Mykal Walker, who in his couple of relevant seasons didn’t impress on film. Hence, Walker went from an every-down player to landing on Pittsburgh’s deepest bench. And lucky enough for us. The Steelers might be the most depleted NFL team at inside linebacker because of injuries. So there’s also not much of a threat to challenge Walker being a solid waiver wire pickup either.
The Steelers lost two main starters when Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander went down. Leaving the third ILB on the depth charts, Elandon Roberts without a wingman to play inside. Walker might not be pretty, but he’s proven in the games where he is a full-time guy he gets the job done. So at this early stage, he’s got LB2 value and will be producing by default if nothing else.
Overall, Walker should be a deep-format pickup that’s on a team that’s also hurting just as badly in the secondary with injuries. Walker might not record many big splash plays, but in IDP any opportunity is worth a shot. Not to mention, if he’s going to fail, we’ll know soon enough this week in a top matchup versus the Cardinals.
