Top Waiver Wire Pickups for Guillotine Fantasy Football in Week 9
Another week down another team was sent to the graveyard. Hopefully, it wasn’t you. If it was, there’s still time to re-up and start another league! Guillotine fantasy football leagues can begin with any week of the season! Let’s dig into the top waiver wire pickups for Week 9.
As we progress further into the season, most teams in your league have likely spent a good chunk of the budgets. That makes every dollar left even more valuable. It’s less likely that the remaining teams will drop a huge amount of FAAB on any one player. The remaining teams probably average about 60 percent of the original budget. Obviously, this estimation could vary depending on a number of factors, so pay close attention to the needs of your competitors and their remaining wallets.
QB Jordan Love – Green Bay Packers
Max Bid: 3-5%
Love was forced out of the matchup with the Jaguars due to a groin injury. We’ll have to wait for further reports as to whether he will be available for Week 9. Whatever the case, Love has demonstrated to be a very valuable fantasy quarterback, throwing 13 touchdown passes in the four games prior to Week 8. That said, I’m not confident he will do the same against a Detroit defense that has allowed less than 16 points in three of their last five games. Not to mention, Green Bay is on bye in Week 10.
RB Breece Hall – New York Jets
Max Bid: 20-25%
Hall’s Week 8 performance can be chalked up to a Braelon Allen vultured touchdown and the upcoming short week of prep. Hall saw 16 carries while Allen saw 12. Hall has reached at least 89 total yards in each of his last three games but the short week and a rowdy Houston defense could limit his Week 9 upside. Overall, he is still one of the best running backs in the league and could make you day with one big play. If he’s available, Hall should be one of your top waiver wire pickups for Week 9.
RB Kenneth Walker – Seattle Seahawks
Max Bid: 18-22%
With the Seahawks falling way behind in the 3rd quarter, the game script was pretty limited for Walker. He was also recovering from an illness that likely contributed to his ability. Now, a divisional matchup with the Rams, who are the 13th-best opponent for running backs based on our D-PAC Score, gives hope for Week 9. Impressively, Walker also averages 4.8 yards per carry in four career games against the Rams. This is a confident play for this coming week and a top waiver wire pickup in your guillotine fantasy football leagues as we head into Week 9.
WR Drake London – Atlanta Falcons
Max Bid: 15-19%
After scoring touchdowns in five of six games, London let us down with 34 scoreless yards on four receptions. The Falcons passing attack has looked better in recent weeks under the leadership of Kirk Cousins, so this past week was probably just an anomaly. They’ll host the Cowboys in Week 9, who have surrendered eight touchdowns in their last two games with four coming through the passing game. London is a guy you should open your wallets for this week.
WR DeAndre Hopkins – Kansas City Chiefs
Max Bid: 9-12%
Joining a new team mid-season isn’t easy for even the best athletes. Hopkins’ first game with Kansas City saw him wrangle just two of three targets for 29 yards. After getting more familiar with the playbook and his counterparts, he should bounce back fairly quickly. This week’s faceoff with the Buccaneers should also help as they’ve allowed 16.5 yards per catch to wide receivers in the last two weeks along with nine total passing touchdowns. Now might be the time for Hopkins.
TE Jake Ferguson – Dallas Cowboys
Max Bid: 8-11%
With the current state of the Cowboys, passing has to be at the forefront of their offensive scheme. Ferguson’s 23 receiving yards wasn’t what we’d hoped for but he has hauled in six or more passes in four of his last five games. On top of that, they’ll face a Falcons defense that has allowed 11.1 yards per reception to tight ends over their last four games along with 61 receiving yards per game to the position.
Guillotine Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups – Budget Bids for Week 9
Every week, you’re going to see players become available that you want for your team. There are two views on this. Either wait and save your budget for when you really need it or place tiny bids on those bigger names that hit the wire. I prefer the second strategy. I’ll put a small bid on a few players every week, maybe a little more. You won’t usually get many of them, but every so often, a player with big value becomes a cheap roster acquisition. The following players, as well as the ones previously mentioned, all fall into that category.
- QB Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
- QB Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
- QB Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings
- RB Brian Robinson Jr., Washington Commanders
- RB Aaron Jones, Minnesota Vikings
- RB Austin Ekeler, Washington Commanders
- RB Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers
- WR Davante Adams, New York Jets
- WR Malik Nabers, New York Giants
- WR Amari Cooper, Buffalo Bills
- WR Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
- TE Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders
- TE Hunter Henry, New England Patriots
