Fantasy Football – Start Of The Week
Christian Watson vs. KC
The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a wide receiver outside the top 24 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Going up against the Kansas City Chiefs, Christian Watson is my start of the week.
After seeing Watson score 20 points in Week 12, I already knew he would be my start of the week. It’s fair to have concerns with Watson, considering this was his first big game of the year, but I’m all in. Most of Watson’s early season struggles were because of his nagging hamstring injury, combined with the poor play of Jordan Love.
Let’s not forget that Watson was an elite talent in his rookie year. Many people wrongfully call Watson touchdown-dependent, but this is far from the truth. The only rookies with 2.25 or higher yards per route run were Odell Beckham Jr, Tyreek Hill, A. J. Brown, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Chris Olave, and Watson.
It looks like Watson is back to being the number one option, as he ran 30 routes, played 49 snaps, and drew seven targets. All three of these metrics were team highs for the Packers. Heading into Week 13, Watson has an excellent game script.
Although the Chiefs have allowed 29.92 PPG to wide receivers, the 7th least in the NFL, the Packers are 7.5-point underdogs. Being forced to play from behind will cause the Packers to throw the ball more than usual, ultimately benefiting Watson. Although I understand the concern surrounding Watson, I’m starting him as a low-end WR2 because of his upside.
