Why You Should Be Targeting 2024 Draft Picks

Today, I will be explaining why I believe dynasty managers should be targeting picks in the 2024 NFL Draft class. The 2023 NFL Draft is in the books. Dynasty rookie drafts have wrapped up and we’re already looking at the 2023 NFL season. For dynasty football managers, there is no off-season, and you should always be looking ahead to the future.

Many managers that are looking to trade back will be targeting picks for their 2023 dynasty rookie drafts. However, trying to convince a manager to part with a 2023 1st-round pick may be tricky depending on who you are trading with. This is where 2024 picks might come into play. Many managers will be happier trading away a 2024 1st-round pick instead of the more coveted 2023 1st-round pick.

With the knowledge that managers are less willing to part ways with 2023 1st-round picks, I decided to start looking into the 2024 class and decided to try and acquire first-round picks for that draft class instead.

Why Now?

So, why is now a good time to target 2024 picks? Well, a lot of managers will have a case of draft fever with the 2022 NFL Draft taking place on Thursday. This means that many managers will be looking to acquire picks for the 2022 Draft with many others looking to trade 2022 picks away. As I mentioned earlier, many managers will look to move higher value 2022 picks for picks in 2023, however, the value for 2023 1st-round picks is still incredibly high, therefore acquiring picks in 2023 may be tricky. By the powers of deduction, this leaves 2024 picks like the ones with the least value and are therefore easier to acquire.

As I mentioned, I have targeted 2024 picks in a league myself, so how many picks do I have in 2024 in that league? Well, currently I have acquired three 1st-round picks and two 3rd-round picks whilst keeping my picks, so I currently hold four 1st-round picks in 2024 and plan to add more to that number.

Here are some names to take a look at for the 2024 NFL Draft class:

TreVeyon Henderson

TreVeyon Henderson is a five-star recruit that plays running back for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Henderson rushed for 1,248 yards on 183 attempts and 15 touchdowns as a freshman.  A truly exciting prospect that has been likened to Christian McCaffrey, Henderson is one to watch for the future.

Braelon Allen

Braelon Allen is a running back that plays for the Wisconsin Badgers. Allen can also play Safety but has played running back for the Badgers. Allen rushed for 1,268 yards on 186 attempts with 12 touchdowns as a freshman.

Caleb Williams

Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Caleb Williams has transferred to the USC Trojans for the upcoming 2022 season. The move links Williams up with Sooners former head coach, Lincoln Riley. Williams played under Riley in Oklahoma in 2021 throwing for 1,921 yards with 21 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Williams showcased his dual-threat ability, rushing 79 times for 442 yards and six touchdowns. Riley produced Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts, and, Kyler Murray during his time at Oklahoma, two of those (Mayfield and Murray) also won the Heisman Trophy. Things are looking good for Caleb Williams.

Xavier Worthy

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy got off to a fantastic start as a freshman, he had 62 receptions for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2021. A speedster with a track background (he ran the 100m in high school), Worthy is arguably the best wide receiver prospect in the class at this time. A lot will change by the time the 2024 draft comes around, but Worthy is already looking to be one of the better wide receiver prospects, and bar injuries, I don’t see that changing.

Other Notable Players

Will Shipley, Quinn Ewers, and Brock Bowers

Another thing to keep in mind is that players who are eligible for 2023 may stay on and declare in 2024, so a lot will change, new big prospects will pop up and excitement will build. The players listed are why I am acquiring picks for 2024, and the great thing is, that the class will only get better and the picks will only go up in value over time. That is a nice win for me and others who have already stocked up on 2024 draft picks. Don’t get left behind. Get ahead of the curve whilst you still can!
