XFL-Star-Lucky-Jackson-Signs-with-Minnesota-Vikings

On Tuesday, it was reported that XFL stand-out receiver, Lucky Jackson, has signed with the Minnesota Vikings. An intriguing move for a team that has a role to fill at wide receiver.

Jackson, formerly of the D.C. Defenders, caught six touchdowns and finished the regular season with the fifth-most receiving yards (573) in the league for the team that came up just short in the XFL Championship game. He also had five straight games with at least six catches per contest and averaged 80.8 receiving yards per game in that span. His 15.9 yards per reception was also the second-highest in the XFL among players with at least 26 catches.

Jackson is no threat to usurp the likes of Justin Jefferson or K.J. Osborn, but his veteran presence and proven ability makes him an interesting depth addition. With the XFL season over, a number of players will be brought in by various teams to compete for roster spots. In the past, some of these players from the XFL have come into the NFL and made a name for themselves. Some of us fondly remember the likes of Tommy Maddox, Rod “He Hate Me” Smart, and Jose Cortez before and after they joined the NFL ranks.

Fantasy Football Outlook

More of a player to keep a distant eye on, Jackson isn’t a guy to look to for fantasy purposes. That said, Anything can happen from injuries to just plain showing up and standing out in the weeks to come. Players like this have a huge chip on their shoulders and will give their coaches everything they’ve got to continue their dreams of competing in the NFL. Cornerback Corey Ivy played in the NFL for nine more seasons after leading the XFL in interceptions back in 2001.

If you’re in a larger league or have very deep rosters, Jackson is an athlete you could take a flier on at the end of your draft. With the Vikings, he could start out as the fourth wide receiver on the depth chart and get a significant bump if any of the team’s other pass catchers suffer an injury. After all, Pro Football Focus ranked Jackson No. 1 among XFL wide receivers this past season.
