The fantasy football regular season ended for all of us a couple of weeks ago, and now is the time as we transition from the redraft mind of things into the dynasty life. Many leagues have locked out their fellow managers from doing add/drops till after the rookie draft. Some, on the other hand, have open waivers. This is our time to pounce on these, what I like to call, stashes, so let’s get right in with 2022 Dynasty Player Stashes.

Stashes are players we think of could be “sleepers” for the 2022 season. What you think, could turn into a gem that can help lead you to a title, could turn into future draft picks, or just nothing at all. That’s what makes dynasty so much fun because let’s say that player “X” does become something this off-season, all your league mates will be running to the waiver wire just to see that you already have them on your team. It’s a great feeling when you have them. Sometimes, you may even get a trade offer for them. That’s usually when I hit accept because even I don’t know if they will really pan out.

These players that I see as “stashes” are great for all dynasty formats as I cover standard to 2QB and Superflex leagues. Some may or may not pop in 2022, some you may have to wait if you can till 2023. Here are a few to go grab and play the wait-and-see game.

Mitch Trubisky, QB, Buffalo Bills

For you 2QB or Superflex players, you may be asking yourself “Why”? Mitch Trubisky was an NFL starter that was drafted in 2017 as the second overall pick. He was the Chicago Bears starter from Week 5 of the 2017 season, all the way to his final game as a Bear to end the 2020 season. Where I am going here is that Trubisky was a starter in the NFL and compared to other team’s backups, has true NFL starter experience. I hope Trubisky stays with the Buffalo Bills, as he only signed a one-year contract to be the backup behind Josh Allen. If he stays and anything were to happen to Josh Allen, Trubisky would be able to drop right in and take over. He didn’t get to play much at all during the 2021 season, but if personnel of the Buffalo Bills leaves to another team, don’t be surprised if Trubisky follows. He won’t cost you much of anything, even in 2QB and Superflex leagues.

Marcus Mariota, QB, Las Vegas Raiders

Many of us in the dynasty community stashed Marcus Mariota on our teams a year ago, just to watch him sign another one-year $3,500,000 contract to once again, back up Derek Carr. We have only seen a little bit of him during his 2021 campaign, but he actually showed what he can do, still to this day which has always been his strength. Running the football. Mariota had 13 rushing attempts this season for 87 yards and is just 28 years old. Let’s not forget back in Week 15 of the 2020 season when Carr got injured in the first half against the Los Angeles Chargers. Mariota came in and went 17/28 for 226 yards with a passing touchdown and an interception, adding 9 carries for 88 yards and another touchdown. I think he still has the “It factor” and could be a perfect bridge quarterback for a quarterback-needy team.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Minnesota Vikings

The 2021 fifth-round pick didn’t do much of anything finishing the 2021 regular season with five receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. The downside of this is that 66% of his stats were from Week 18, along with 88.7% of his total yardage. So why stash him? Well, sometimes teams like to see what they have in their players. One that comes to mind is Arian Foster. He had a phenomenal game to end the NFL regular season. The following season, Ben Tate got injured in the pre-season and Arian Foster took over and dominated the league. Do you know who had Foster as soon as the 2009 season ended? This is why players like Ihmir Smith-Marsette are worth a stash. We don’t know yet what is going to happen with Adam Thielen. If he’s cut, the value of Smith-Marsette could be going up. This team has a lot of questions as a whole, and considering his price tag, why not?

Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers

Early in the 2021 season, Jauan Jennings’ snap percentage was below 20%. He wasn’t a name to know early, but as the season went on, he earned more playing time starting in  Week 10. Serving as the third option in San Francisco. He didn’t start getting consistent targets until Week 14, and that’s okay. I can see the second-year player (Year 3 to start 2022) making a name for himself, no matter if it’s Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance starting in 2022. He has some massive sleeper appeal and those who are paying attention now in the NFL playoffs should see he is already starting to make an impact for the 49ers.
