2022 Free NFL Picks: Week 1 Best Bets and Betting Odds
Welcome to the 2022 NFL Season!! We are back with our NFL Best Bets to guide you along and win you some money. Last year we hit around 50% basically breaking even. This year we aim for 60%. You can check my picks and seasonal records here on Tallysight.com where I will be recording all my selections.
1 p.m. ET
Ravens -7 @ Jets
Zach Wilson will be out the first 3-4 weeks, so the Jets will turn to former Raven and SB Champ, Joey Flacco. Flacco is 0-5 as a starter for the Jets. His best days are way behind him.
The Jets lost Makhi Becton in the preseason and then signed veteran Duane Brown to replace him, but he just hit the IR and will be out as well. Flacco against this Ravens defense is not going to look good. Jim Harbaugh is an experienced winning coach with a better team.
Lay the seven with Baltimore as I expect them to win this game handily. Jets fans will be shot out and miserable by the 3rd quarter.
Patriots +3 @ Dolphins
I see a lot of people taking Miami in this game and no doubt it’s because of the potential of the Miami offense this year getting Tyreek Hill to go along with Jaylen Waddle. They are also worried about the reports of the Patriots’ offense without Josh McDaniels and them looking out of sorts this offseason.
However, the Master, Bill Belichick remains and he will be facing off against an entirely new coaching staff, led by a 39-year-old rookie Head Coach in Mike McDaniel. Is Bill gonna lose to a guy who has never coached an NFL game in his life? Give me the Pats and the points.
Steelers +7 @ Bengals, Over 44
The Bengals upgraded the biggest weakness of their team this offseason which was the offensive line. Does that equate to a Super Bowl win a year after losing in the big game? Or will see another SB hangover from the runner-up?
I think the Bengals will have another great year and win the division, but I like getting seven points from a divisional opponent that is coached by Mike Tomlin in the first week of the season. The Steelers like the Bengals also have a lot of offensive talent and an even better defense.
The Bengals smacked them around twice last year, so Pittsburgh will want to avenge that. I think they can do enough offensively with Mitch Trubisky and this defense to stay within the number. Take the over as well, lots of offensive talent and big play potential to make that hit.
Bears +6.5 vs 49ers
If you have listened to our show on the Fffaceoff pod this offseason, you know I am very high on Justin Fields and not so high on Trey Lance. Therefore, this number screams value to me.
Yes, the Bears’ offensive line is concerning as is their lack of weapons. However, a wise man once said, ” A good QB makes the weapons, good weapons don’t make the QB.” This game is expected to have some sloppy weather and the total is all way down to 40.
This should help the Bears and this should be a close game. I think too many people are talking about the prospects of Trey Lance and not enough about Justin Fields. After this game, I think the tide will change. Bears Moneyline at +240 has some appeal also.
Lions +5 vs Eagles
If you watched Hard Knocks this year you saw that Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell is ready to run through a brick wall this season. This guy’s intensity, dedication, and will to win are up there with anyone.
This goes for the whole coaching staff led by a lot of former successful NFL pros such as Duce Staley, Aaron Glenn, and Mark Brunell. I don’t understand the five points at home against Philly. This Lions team can absolutely play with them.
Philly is another shiny new team with the addition of AJ Brown, but the Lions also added some new weapons of their own with DJ Chark on offense and the #2 pick in this year’s draft Aidan Hutchinson. Both team’s offensive lines are solid. The Philly defense is better but five points is too much to me, take Detroit. This is another potential Moneyline play at +185.
Colts -7 @ Texans
The Texans are supposed to take a leap in their 2nd season with new Head Coach Lovie Smith.
They are going to need to take a big leap in this game after being obliterated by the Colts twice last losing year 31-0 and 31-3. Jonathan Taylor ran for almost 300 yards in those two games.
Matt Ryan is an upgrade from Carson Wentz, Colts are the better talent, better-coached team, and will own the Texans again.
4:25 p.m. ET
Chiefs -6.5 @ Cardinals
The Cardinals will have no DeAndre Hopkins, no Rondale Moore, and Zach Ertz is also questionable to play. Marquise Brown really is their only threat in the passing game and can be contained.
KC has a lot of new weapons on offense but they still have Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and Andy Reid who will have had plenty of time to prepare for this game. KC just is better in almost every spot, I will gladly lay the 6.5.
Chargers -3.5 vs Raiders, Over 52
A new system in Las Vegas with Josh McDaniels and they bring in arguably the best WR in the league in Davante Adams.
Still, the Chargers are at home, have the better QB, better defense, and ultimately are the better team in my opinion. A healthy Derwin James and Joey Bosa give this team a huge boost. Buy the number down to three and take LA. Give me the over as well with very good QB play and weapons on both offenses.
Monday Night Football
Broncos -6.5
Pete Carroll vs Russell Wilson. Who will win this matchup? Big coaching advantage for Seattle with Carroll against rookie Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett, but an even bigger advantage with Russell Wilson going against Geno Smith. The Denver defense is also a force and a lot better than Seattle.
There was something going on with Russ in Seattle and it showed its ugly head last year. I think he has found Sunny skies in Denver and that will carry over this season and into Seattle Monday night.
