2024 Dynasty Rookie Profile: Bo Nix, QB

2024 Dynasty Rookie Profile: <a rel=

With so many talented quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft pool,  a few talented names may have to wait until Day 2 to be selected. We’ve seen quarterbacks find jobs coming from Day 2 and Day 3, and a name that may do that in 2024 is Oregon’s Bo Nix. Nix came on especially strong this past year for the Ducks, becoming involved in the Heisman race and leading a talented group full of NFL prospects. Today, we’ll be breaking down his outlook in the NFL. More importantly, for your dynasty fantasy football rosters.

Bo Nix (QB) Oregon – Dynasty Rookie Profile

Height: 6’2

Weight: 218 lbs

For Nix, his production at the next level will hinge on the team and scheme he gets drafted into. Not to mention, whether or not he can show enough in practice to make a team make a quarterback change. He’s likely to start as the second or third option at signal-caller. However, he grew every year in college and showed a new skill set when he transferred to the Ducks.

In 2023, Nix had his best college season when he threw for 45 touchdowns and over 4,500 yards. Let’s take a peek at what Nix does well, and what he may still need to work on to find some NFL starts.

Strengths

Confidence

Since joining the Oregon Ducks in 2022, Nix has shown maturity and confidence while leading a new team as an upperclassman. To start, his career was a bit rocky and his NFL prospects looked dead on arrival while he was an Auburn Tiger. In two seasons for the Ducks, Nix was able to adjust to the new structure and play up to the surrounding talent in Oregon.

Furthermore, his completion percentage exceeded 70% in his two seasons for the Ducks, showing plenty of confidence in himself and his teammates. If he finds good structure at the next level, he can grow his game once again and adapt to the NFL with consistent improvement.

Weaknesses

Timing

While Nix did have impressive completion percentages while playing for the Ducks, it realistically could’ve been higher with better processing and timing in his throws. Nix hit plenty of open receivers and playmakers in Troy Franklin and Tez Johnson, but he also had a few drives of being a little too amped up with overthrowing players before their routes were completed. He needs to trust his receivers and continue to remain calm in the face of defenders, the NFL game will only become quicker. These hyper-reactive throws may end up in turnovers more often than not at the next level. He must throw more catchable balls in space rather than relying on athletic receivers to make circus catches.

NFL Fit and Draft Capital

Bo Nix has obvious NFL fits on Day 2 of the NFL Draft, but he may not get a bump into the late first due to his advanced age and processing questions. The fact that he improved every year should encourage NFL teams, and Nix can be a backup quarterback project for some teams in need, if not more.

Teams such as the Steelers, Seahawks, or Broncos are good fits where he could eventually start. Ultimately, he needs weapons and belief in his abilities, but he’ll be competent at getting the ball to playmakers.

Dynasty Outlook

For dynasty football purposes, and dynasty rookie drafts in particular, things look a bit different for Nix. We are looking at a prospect to take in the middle of the second round if he sees Day 2 capital from the NFL. He’s shown enough rushing and passing that he can realistically produce for fantasy football, but he must slow the game down mentally. That could take a year or two of sitting behind a starter.

Overall, this is an investment that if it all goes ideally, starts a few games in 2024. However, Nix may find himself being a late second or early third-rounder in rookie drafts, making him a secure QB5-6 in this upcoming class but not someone to rely on turning your team around right now.
