2024 Dynasty Rookie Profile: Xavier Worthy, WR
The fastest man at the 2024 NFL Combine, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy now has a reputation to back up as he moves to the NFL. If you haven’t heard, Worthy broke the all-time 40-yard dash record with a 4.21 official time.
Worthy showed lightning quickness both at the NFL Combine and during his college stint. In college, he had multiple good receiving seasons for the Longhorns, even getting a 12-touchdown season under his belt in his Freshman season. In a class of incredible wide receiver talent, Worthy’s skillset will hopefully set him apart. Today, we’ll be breaking down his outlook in the NFL and more importantly, for your dynasty fantasy football squads.
Xavier Worthy (WR) – Dynasty Rookie Profile
Height: 5’11
Weight: 165 lbs
During his last season for the Longhorns, Worthy caught 75 balls for 1,014 yards, while providing only five touchdowns. The touchdown total is low, but he was sharing an offensive workload with Jordan Whittington, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Adonai Mitchell, and Jonathon Brooks. This team was full of offensive talent, so seeing a top target like Worthy being kept out of the end zone isn’t shocking. Defenses keyed on him and it’s clear why, they didn’t want to get beaten over the top. Let’s take a look at Worthy’s skills in an offense.
Strengths
Quickness
Worthy is one of the fastest NFL prospects to ever join the league, taking the 40-yard dash record from John Ross this year. It isn’t just Worthy’s straight speed that makes him a talent to watch though. Worthy is also quick off the line of scrimmage, showing multiple moves to get passed his defender downfield or horizontally. His quickness will be what gets him open early and often at the next level. Worthy’s 1.49 10-yard split in the 40 is scorching fast.
Weaknesses
Slim Frame
While Worthy impressed on the field at the combine, he also weighed in at only 165 pounds on his 5’11 frame. He impressed in the workout, not even taking part in the drills after the dash. His slight frame would’ve been a serious question mark if he came into the league a few years ago.
Recently, we’ve seen success in receivers in this body type, namely Tank Dell, Devonta Smith, and Jordan Addison. If he plays as fast as he ran at the NFL Combine and on tape, he’ll get open and get plenty of opportunity anyway. The biggest question for Worthy: how does the NFL Combine translate to fantasy football production?
NFL Fit and Draft Capitol
Worthy was one of the huge winners at the combine with his legendary 40-yard dash performance. That may have secured a spot for him in the NFL’s first round. However, Worthy feels like a second-rounder at worst. Check out where he’s been going in our latest dynasty rookie ADP.
Furthermore, Worthy has the catching ability and route tree to be successful. He should be expected to produce quickly for a team that takes him. The best fits could be the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs. Both are ideal situations in the late first. However, teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Green Bay Packers also may need to add at the position late Day 1 or Day 2. Replacing Marquez Valdes-Scantling and pairing with Patrick Mahomes may be the most ideal situation for Worthy long term. Not to mention, pairing another talented wide receiver with second-year Rashee Rice.
Dynasty Outlook
How much Worthy can produce and consistently produce will be the debate when deciding where to take him in fantasy. He could be a best ball asset with his ability to take any touch to the end zone. However, it’ll remain to be seen whether he’s mainly used as a downfield threat to open the short passing game.
Nevertheless, this is a top-end receiving prospect and should be well worth an early second-rounder or late first in dynasty rookie drafts. This kind of speed in today’s NFL should make an offensive coordinator happy, and give our dynasty football teams a fun asset to own long-term. In the end, Worthy could certainly be a valuable piece of your dynasty football rosters.
