Throughout the past few years, Ohio State has produced immense talent for the NFL. Specifically at wide receiver, they’ve been tremendous at developing their pass catchers, and this year is no different.
With arguably the best receiving room in college football, the Buckeyes will have a high-flying offense so long that their young quarterback can develop in his first year. Not only that but they’re also stacked on the defensive side of the ball and should see many of their players drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. Here are the top players to watch for the Buckeyes this season.
5. #33 EDGE Jack Sawyer
Sawyer is an exciting prospect known for his exceptional speed, pass-rushing techniques, and versatility. He can play any defensive scheme, finding success as both a hand in the dirt or stand-up pass rusher. His refinement in his hand technique and an arsenal of pass rush moves make him a difficult blocking assignment.
Sawyer has room to grow as a run defender, but his motor and acceleration make up for any deficiencies at the college level. With a solid class of edge rushers, he should still be considered one of the better available options for the 2024 NFL Draft.
4. #32 RB TreVeyon Henderson
Henderson is a promising talent known for his elite speed, vision, and versatility. His best attributes are his breakaway speed, with a great accelerator, displaying patience to set up his blocks, and exploding through the line. Additionally, he is an agile runner and a sure-handed ball carrier. While he’s not used a lot in the receiving game, he has shown in the past that he can be a capable receiver.
Henderson could benefit by improving his pass protection and being a more consistent blocker overall. With the talent and need for running backs throughout the NFL Draft, he should be considered one of the top options when April rolls around.
3. #44 EDGE J.T. Tuimoloau
Tuimoloau possesses exceptional athleticism, versatility, and technical skills for a young player. His explosiveness off the ball and versatility to line up at various areas on the defensive line makes him an intriguing edge rusher for the NFL Draft. He has effective power and solid hand technique to shed blockers. His football knowledge and ability to read plays from the snap, paired with his hot motor, is intimidating to offensive linemen.
Tuimoloau still has work to develop more of a diverse pass-rushing plan and be consistent at keeping his pads low to maintain leverage. He has the potential to be a game-changing prospect for the NFL level.
2. #2 WR Emeka Egbuka
Egbuka is a dynamic player with elite speed and agility, making him a deep threat, and with his ability to create separation, he’s dangerous at all levels. Some of the best attributes that make him a top-notch receiver prospect are his reliable hands, a wide catching radius, and the versatility to play multiple roles on the field, adding complexity to an offense. His route running is improving, and he excels at gaining yards after the catch, showcasing elusiveness and field vision.
Egbuka could use more refinement in his blocking technique and further expand his overall route tree. All in all, he is another star wide receiver prospect that Ohio State has produced. He will be a highly-picked player for the upcoming NFL Draft.
1. #18 WR Marvin Harrison Jr.
Harrison Jr. has many strengths throughout his game, starting with his exceptional hands. He’s reliable in any situation, and rarely do you ever see him drop a ball that hits his hands. He’s a very advanced route-running that can run any route in the route tree. His ability to snap routes off and create separation makes him extremely tough to cover. Pair that with his above-average speed and agility; you have a lethal weapon in the passing game.
However, as a blocker, he could be more consistent on the outside. But, his physicality certainly is evident in contested catch situations. More importantly, he matches up to any comparison of a top wide receiver. All of these things considered, this him a top-tier wide receiver prospect for the upcoming NFL Draft.
