2025 NFL Draft – Scouting the Nation: 2 Star Defensive Backs

In this article, we’ll be looking at two talented defensive backs. We’ll analyze their performances, strengths, and what sets them apart in the competition. Continue reading to discover which college football stars are poised to shine the brightest next season. Let’s dive into these two talented DBs and see what sets them apart from the competition.

Billy Bowman Jr. DS Oklahoma

Bowman Jr.’s football IQ is off the charts. His ability to read the quarterback’s eyes and then make a play on the football is fantastic. Turn on his Texas film from this past season, and he not only looks like a clear-cut first-round pick but was also a huge reason the Sooners were able to win that game.

Bowman Jr. projects as a free safety at the next level who can excel in a single high role. Those kinds of prospects are hard to find, which is why defensive coordinators will covet him. He also had six interceptions in 2023 and is a natural ballhawk. It is difficult for a safety to be a first-round pick, but Bowman Jr. is that good. All things considered, he’s easily a top 32 player in the class.

Mansoor Delane CB Virginia Tech

Cornerbacks with height, speed, and fluidity are hard to find, and Delane checks all of those boxes. He can fly and should run really well at the NFL Combine. Delane didn’t give up separation deep and consistently stayed in the wideout’s hip pocket. His click and close is also fantastic. That, combined with his length, will allow him to break up a lot of passes in the NFL.

Delane’s hips are incredibly fluid, and few cornerbacks possess his change of direction skills. He is a natural man-to-man cover cornerback who can hang with the opposing team’s top wideout. Delane is a willing tackler and looked great in his reps as a safety too. Additionally, he plays the ball well in the air. Ultimately, if he adds more interceptions this season, Delane will elevate himself from a first-round prospect to a top-15 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
