2024 Dynasty Rookie Profile: Brock Bowers, TE
The top tight end in 2024 and two-time John Mackey Award winner (College Football’s Most Outstanding Tight End) Brock Bowers has officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. The versatile and young tight end spent three seasons for the Georgia Bulldogs and was a leading threat for the two-time National Champions in 2022 and 2023.
Ultimately, he finished his collegiate career with 2538 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in 40 games. Additionally, he showed rushing prowess on jet sweeps and accruing an additional five scores on the ground in three years. All in all, he’s a fantastic prospect and one of the best tight ends we’ve studied in a long time. Let’s break down his outlook for the 2024 NFL Draft and dynasty fantasy football purposes.
Brock Bowers (TE) Georgia – Dynasty Rookie Profile
Height: 6’4
Weight: 240 lbs
Strengths
Offensive Versatility
Brock Bowers has received his deserved attention over the last three years. This is largely due to his ability to be a threat offensively at the tight end position. Bowers stepped up into a leading receiving role when wide receiver George Pickens was injured during the 2021-2022 season for the Bulldogs and thrived. Bowers led the team in catches (56), receiving yards (882), and touchdowns (13) during his Freshman season.
Notably, he offers teams a threat that can be put in line and on the outside to run routes. More importantly, creating mismatches with different defenders due to his size and speed combo.
Speed
One of the greatest assets Bowers has to offer at his size is speed. Bowers is a fast tight end who affects defenses, running with great power and smoothness in the open field. Needless to say, he’s a difficult matchup for cornerbacks because of his size. However, defenses who put a linebacker on him in the open field are sure to face consequences.
NFL defenses may need to put their quick and physical defensive backs on Bowers. Notably, this allows the wide receivers in the offense to thrive on the mismatches elsewhere. Most importantly, Bowers can instantly change the dynamic and target share of the offense he joins in the NFL.
Weaknesses
Injury Queries
As we head into this offseason, a great deal of how we look at incoming rookies and the impact they can have depends on their health early in camp and going into the next year. Bowers underwent a tightrope surgery in November, and we as managers will be curious about his sprained ankles status as we advance in the pre-draft process. At this time it doesn’t appear to be a long-term injury or worry for potential Bowers managers. However, don’t be shocked if Bowers takes a similar route to Dalton Kincaid in 2023 by sitting out most of the process and rehabbing while his draft stock remains intact. If Bowers is ready to go for training camp this isn’t a worry, but keep yourself updated on his status.
Fear of the Unknown Draft Process
With any prospect, even the talented high-ceiling ones such as Bowers and Marvin Harrison Jr., their future fantasy output depends greatly on their landing spot and surrounding talent. Bowers projects as a highly touted prospect and to be taken early in the draft, but just how high he can start in an offenses pecking order remains to be seen.
At this time of year, we all want these prospects to go to seemingly logical and exciting long-term options. With free agency and the trade market reopening in the new league year, don’t be surprised when those ideal situations change and fluctuate. You also must take into account that Bowers may go to a good team with long-term fantasy upside but may start lower on the totem pole in the passing offense, to develop his game for the next level.
NFL Fit and Draft Capitol
Brock Bowers figures to be the highest-drafted tight end since Kyle Pitts in 2021, and will likely hear his name called within the top 20 picks in the NFL Draft, if not earlier. He is a fit in many offenses due to his speed and size mismatch at the tight end positions and will be a sought-after asset for an NFL offense that is one or two pieces away.
Dynasty Outlook
For dynasty purposes, Bowers can be a top receiving option in an offense, a la Mark Andrews or Travis Kelce of the last few years. Or more recently, produce numbers like we saw from the rookie tight end for the Lions, Sam LaPorta. If Bowers reaches that hefty ceiling, he will be locked in as a top-five tight end for the long term who also may find himself as the dynasty TE1 sooner than later. Needless to say, Bowers is an exciting dynasty investment for a young team rebuilding. Or one looking for that productive tight end to insert into the lineup long-term.
