Brock Bowers Fantasy Outlook 2024 – Late-Round TE Option?

2

The 2024 fantasy football season is fast approaching and many drafts will be taking place in the next few weeks. One player who many in the fantasy football community are excited to see play, is Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers. Today, I’ll break down the Brock Bowers fantasy football outlook for 2024 and beyond.

Will Bowers perform like last year’s rookie tight end sensation Sam LaPorta? Or will he struggle as the majority of rookie tight ends do in their first professional season?

In this article, we’ll dive into Bowers 2024 fantasy football value, analyzing his college career, his current team dynamics, and his potential for the upcoming season. We’ll explore his strengths, potential red flags, and compare him to other tight ends in the league. Whether you’re contemplating drafting him or trading for him in your dynasty league, this comprehensive analysis will help you make an informed decision whether to have Bowers on your fantasy team or not.

TE Brock Bowers Fantasy Football Outlook

Bowers was the first tight end drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. To many a surprise, he was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders, 13th overall.

In his three years at the University of Georgia, Bowers totaled over 2,700 yards and 31 touchdowns. Notably, he was the first tight end to be a two-time Mackey Award winner. That award is given to the best tight end in college.

At 6’3 and 245 pounds, Bowers is a bit undersized for the tight end position. What Bowers lacks in size, he makes up for in speed and ability after the catch. He showed his versatility at Georgia by lining up as a Wildcat QB on occasion and scoring five touchdowns. After the draft, Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco referred to Bowers as a “hybrid receiver.”

Head coach Antonio Pierce was quoted saying about Bowers: “You’re talking about probably the most dynamic football player in college football at that tight end position in a long time. And you rarely get a guy like that, that can line up as a slot receiver, see him in the backfield, reverses, catch the ball.”

Brock Bowers Fantasy Football Outlook (2024)

Since 2000, only three rookie tight ends have surpassed 750 receiving yards. Jeremy Shockey in 2001, Kyle Pitts in 2021, and Sam LaPorta last year. Out of those three, only LaPorta scored more than two touchdowns (10). Needless to say, what LaPorta did last year was truly unique and amazing.

At least Pitts had Matt Ryan and LaPorta had Jared Goff throwing them the ball. Bowers will have either Gardner Minshew or Aidan O’Connell throwing him the ball – not exactly encouraging. There is also sophomore tight end Michael Mayer whom the Raiders selected early in the second round last year to compete with.

For this year, Bowers might be a decent late-round tight end option. However, you should temper your expectations and make sure you have another option better than Bowers.

Brock Bowers – Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook

For dynasty fantasy football purposes, Bowers has a bright future. According to FantasyPros, Bowers dynasty ADP is TE5, one spot below Dalton Kincaid and one ahead of Kyle Pitts. Personally, I prefer Pitts over Bowers, since Pitts has already had an elite rookie season. Placing Bowers right behind Pitts seems fair. Additionally, in front of other proven veteran tight ends such as Travis Kelce, TJ Hockenson, or Evan Engram.

Long-term, Bowers is just 21 years old and could be an elite option for the next 10 years. More importantly, in dynasty leagues.

Trading for Bowers won’t be cheap and probably not advised for this year. As well, I doubt many dynasty managers would be willing to trade him unless you offer a truckload. Your best bet for dynasty leagues might be to hold.

Brock Bowers – Final Thoughts for Fantasy Football

Bowers is considered to be one of the best tight end prospects to enter the NFL in recent years. His talent and versatility are unquestioned. The situation he finds himself in Las Vegas can be questioned.

Furthermore, the Raiders should certainly scheme up plays just for Bowers. However, the quarterback situation along with second-year tight end Michael Mayer may cause some serious concerns. As of now, it looks like Gardner Minshew will be starting at QB for the Raiders.

History is also working against Mayer. There is a better chance that he struggles this season than put up a LaPorta-like season. His current ADP is TE11, which seems appropriate for a rookie tight end. As you can guess, in our latest dynasty rankings, Bowers is very high.

Eventually, Bowers could be an elite tight end for fantasy football purposes. Just not this year.
