Bryce Young – 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Bryce Young - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Quarterback – Alabama

5’10” 204 lbs

1st Round – 1st Pick (1st Overall) – Carolina Panthers

Pre-Draft Profile

Bryce Young is an accurate quarterback who does well navigating both inside of a busy pocket, as well as on the move outside. Considering the history of play calling for Frank Reich, look for Carolina to utilize bootlegs early on in order to capitalize on Young’s mobility.

Young carried the Crimson Tide receiving group as far as he could take them. His 77.4% adjusted completion percentage shows just how special he was in a year that still seemed like a down year. Furthermore, he is smart with the ball and had a mere 2% of turnover-worthy plays in 2022.

Fantasy Football Outlook

Young may very well win the job outright in camp. However, with trends in the NFL, it should be no shock if he spends the first month of the season on the bench, behind Andy Dalton. For what Carolina lacks in talent at the offensive weapons, they have veteran experience. Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, and Terrace Marshall all project to be the Week 1 wide receivers

With offensive lines tending to be an issue for young quarterbacks early on, Young will have no issues there. Last year, Carolina’s offensive line finished 15th in PFF’s regular season rankings in 2022. Considering how Young was still very productive at Alabama this past season, despite a lack of talent at the skills around them, this should give Young plenty of time to operate from a clean pocket and avoid turnover-worthy plays.

2023 Projections:

  • 16 Games Played
  • 3,100 Passing Yards
  • 27 Touchdowns
  • 10 Interceptions

With standard scoring, this would be 247.00 points. This would project Young as a QB2 for the 2023 season with the closest total points for the previous season being Aaron Rodgers. On a points-per-game basis from last season, Young’s production would fall closest to Justin Herbert’s as both came in close to 16 points per game.

Dynasty Outlook

As for your dynasty fantasy football leagues, Young’s landing spot in a weak division will give him an opportunity for growth and plenty of fantasy football production. Additionally, he should be viewed as no worse than a top-three pick in rookie Superflex drafts. As for your 1QB leagues, he should fall into the beginning of the 2nd round, with some leagues him going at the end of the 1st round.
