Cedric Tillman – 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Cedric Tillman - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wide Receiver – Tennessee

6’3″ 213 lbs

3rd Round – 11th Pick (74th Overall) – Cleveland Browns

Pre-Draft Profile

Cedric Tillman’s 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook is booming. With an affinity for physicality, Tillman is a renowned specialist in contested-catch scenarios. He is skilled at fending off opposing defenders while the ball is in the air. He has exceptional hand strength and can free the ball from the grasp of defenders.

Additionally, he has proven his talent in difficult matchups against some of the best teams in the SEC. Clearly turning heads around the NFL with his bruising style of receiver play. He is a force to be reckoned with in contested situations. This is especially useful in the red zone, where his impressive wingspan and leaping ability come into play next to a fellow jump ball specialist in David Njoku.

Fantasy Football Outlook

As one of the true X receivers in this class, Tillman excelled at dominating SEC cornerbacks in devastating fashion. He lacks the top-end speed and agility of more multi-dimensional players. Moreover, his role at the next level will be primarily confined to the boundary.

Despite this limited scope, there may still be potential for this player to generate fantasy points after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns. This is due to the team’s focus on revamping their offense with a more modern approach that leans heavily on passing.

How does this affect the other players on the team? For Amari Cooper, nothing has changed. He is a versatile threat who can be lined up all over the field in any assignment given.

As for Elijah Moore, he will barely feel the impact of Tillman. This is because they operate in two completely different areas of the field. Additionally, Moore is a slot specialist who can run underneath while Tillman is a pure boundary type.

Donovan Peoples-Jones‘ time as a mainstay within this offense has come to an end I fear. He has one trait that keeps him on the field and that is his ability to win at the catch point. Tillman is simply an upgrade over him in every way. He will look to excel as an X or Y depending on whatever Kevin Stefanski needs him to be in that moment.

I expect Tillman to be eased into the offense, gradually earning snaps until the end of the season when he will solidify his role. For fantasy he will be similar to what we saw from Nico Collins this past season in that he can easily be in the WR3 range. However, he will have something Collins did not have last year. Deshaun Watson throwing him the ball.

Dynasty Outlook

When it comes to your dynasty fantasy football leagues, Tillman will make a home of the second round. Nothing is guaranteed with his draft capital, so I will be approaching him with caution as to not take him too much higher than the middle of the second round.

Because of the likelihood of early WR3 production I mentioned earlier, Tillman cannot be outside of the top 40 receivers in dynasty formats. This ranking may backfire, but if he makes the waves I think he has the talent to, top 40 will look silly.
