Chris Olave to the Saints

The New Orleans Saints taking a wide receiver in the first round is not a surprise. As a Saints fan, I am not surprised they took one from Ohio State as they have a reputation for drafting players from Ohio State. However, I am a little surprised they traded up to draft Chris Olave.

Olave is very fast and smooth and I do believe he will be a really good receiver. However, I feel the Saints gave up too much and should have stayed at pick 16. Would Olave have been there at pick 16? Most likely not, but one of Jahan Dotson or Treylon Burks would have been available. I do like Olave better than both Dotson and Burks but not enough to trade a Round 3 and Round 4 pick. Maybe Saints GM Mickey Loomis and head coach Dennis Allen know something we don’t.

Trade Details

New Orleans Saints receive: No. 11 pick (Chris Olave)

Washington Commanders receive: No.16 pick (Jahan Dotson), No.98 pick, and No. 120 pick.

Redraft Outlook

I believe Olave will come into the NFL and produce right away. He will have Jameis Winston throwing him the ball and Winston can sling it. With Michael Thomas on one side and Alvin Kamara in the backfield, defenses won’t be able to key in on Olave as much. If Kamara ends up serving a suspension this year Olave could see even more targets as the Saints pass more.

Dynasty Outlook

I see Olave having a long and very good career and when it is all said and done it would not surprise me if he has the best career out of the wide receivers in this draft. In my opinion, he has the most talented quarterback of all the wide receivers drafted in the first round of the draft this year and will also get to learn from Thomas.

He may have many WR2 seasons and has the talent to have a WR1 season. I know there has been a lot of hype around the other wide receivers that went in the first round but do not sleep on Olave.
