Dallas Goedert 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Fantasy Football Outlook
2022 was Dallas Goedert’s first year being the lead tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles. After spending four seasons behind Zach Ertz, it was finally time for Goedert to take the reigns as the TE1.
Ultimately, he finished with a stat line of 55-702-3 in 12 games played. During that time, he averaged 4.5 catches and 58 yards a game before a shoulder injury sidelined him for five games. If he maintained this average across 17 games then he would have finished with a line of 78-994-4. In PPR scoring that equates to 201 points, which is about what George Kittle finished with last year (200.5) as the TE3 overall.
Typically, the biggest knock on Goedert is that he is perceived as the number 3 target on his offense. The elite tight ends are typically a top two target on their team. Furthermore, with both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith as his competition for targets it seems like the only way Goedert becomes a top two target is by way of injury.
However, if you look closer to the box scores last season, you’ll see a different story. Goedert finished with the second most catches or yards on the team in seven of his 12 games played last season. Essentially, Goedert was the number 2 option over half the time last year.
Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023
The tight end position is one of the most volatile positions in fantasy football. Even studs like Kyle Pitts, Mark Andrews, and Darren Waller were disappointing last year. Using our free fantasy football tool, the Consistency Score, Goedert was the second most consistent tight end last year, behind only Travis Kelce.
Additionally, the CS accounts for games missed due to injury which helps eliminate this as an excuse for players like Pitts or Waller who both missed time last year. If Goedert stays healthy this year and with this type of consistency, he has the potential to finish as a top 3 tight end in 2023.
Dynasty Football Outlook
Right now, Goedert is ranked as the TE6 in our up-to-date dynasty fantasy football rankings. At 28 years old, we know that this is around the peak age of production for tight ends. However, he is signed through the 2025 season. Meanwhile, Brown is signed through 2026, Smith through 2025 (Assuming the Eagles pick up his 5th-year option), and Hurts through 2028. Overall, this should be a stable group for the next 2-3 seasons with each one of these players in their prime.
Chances are Goedert dynasty managers are holding because they know they have a tight end with a safe floor. He can put up around 10 points per game who can pop off for a few 20-point games each year. Ultimately, Goedert may never finish as the number 1 scoring tight end in a given year. However, he could realistically finish between TE3 and TE6 in each of the next few seasons. Many dynasty managers might be concerned about the plethora of pass-catching options on this offense, which may create a bit of a buy-low window for Goedert.
