Fantasy Football Outlook: The Texans have been active this offseason. They signed wide receivers Robert Woods and Noah Brown in free agency while trading away Brandin Cooks.

While the team has invested in the wide receiver position the past few years, the Texans haven’t done much to improve the tight end spot. They used a pair of fifth-round picks on Brevin Jordan and Teagan Quitoriano. However, neither has made a consistent impact on an NFL offense. Therefore, it’s no surprise Houston signed Schultz to a one-year deal.

The veteran tight end had a career year in 2021, totaling 78 receptions on 104 targets for 808 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. The Dallas Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Schultz last offseason. Unfortunately, the former Stanford star dealt with injuries in 2022 and saw his numbers decline.

However, Schultz landed in a solid spot for fantasy players. The Texans will likely use the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on a quarterback. Meanwhile, rookie quarterbacks tend to lean on their tight ends. More importantly, Schultz could lead the team in targets this year, given the lack of elite options at wide receiver.
