D’Andre Swift, Bears RB – Fantasy Football Outlook (2024)
Joining his third team in just 11 months, veteran running back D’Andre Swift found a team for the 2024 NFL season and beyond. As reported by Jordan Schultz, Swift signed a three-year, $24M contract with the Chicago Bears with 14M guaranteed.
D’Andre Swift Fantasy Football Outlook (2024)
Teams were quickly signing running backs, and surprisingly Swift was the first one off the board. Teams have signed many of these free agent running backs quickly during this off-season, indicating they could have little faith in the 2024 NFL Draft class. Before we dive into what he can do for the 2024 fantasy football season, let’s take a look at what he accomplished last year.
After the 2023 NFL Draft trade, Swift rushed for his best season with 229 attempts and 1,049 yards. However, he only received 49 targets for 214 yards, marking his lowest total. This lack of targets may have been due to playing with Jalen Hurts, who typically doesn’t pass to running backs. Additionally, Swift only managed to score five rushing touchdowns, which is three times fewer than Hurts. Ultimately, this negatively impacted his fantasy stats, resulting in him finishing as the RB24.
At the time, Justin Fields was the starter. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers have since traded for him while the Bears maintain the No.1 overall pick. Keep in mind, that they also traded for veteran QB Russell Wilson. As expected, it appears that Caleb Williams will be the first player drafted this year. Notably, the Bears have surrounded Swift with more players, trading for Keenan Allen and making other free agent signings.
Prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, the running backs on the Bears current roster aren’t exactly much to write home about. Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer are the running backs who Swift will be competing with. That said, there could very well be a rookie running back in this mix. However, Swift should easily be the most talented and most experienced RB for the 2024 season.
Moving forward, Swift is running behind two fantastic offensive lines in the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions. Now, he is now heading to the Bears, who struggled last year. However, according to Pro Football Network, the Bears’ current line is ranked 11th in the league.
Now if the Bears draft Williams and everything unfolds as expected, then we should consider Swift as an RB2 with upside. The Bears offense looks good on paper, but I think many will overdraft them. That said, I am comfortable taking Swift no sooner than Round 5 with what we know.
