DeShaun Watson’s 6-Game Suspension – Fantasy Football Impact
Cleveland Browns quarterback DeShaun Watson will miss six games for the sexual assault allegations brought on him and aired on the court of social media. We’ll go over Watson’s missed matchups, late season payoff, handcuffing options and quarterback ranking for 2022.
First, he will miss games versus the Panthers, Jets, Steelers, Falcons, Chargers, and the Patriots. His first start will be in Week 7 in Baltimore. Two weeks later, Cleveland will have their bye week and should give decent reason to assume a large portion of rust should be gone. While he will have to spend six weeks away from the team, the time spent this offseason should provide an adequate floor for those standards.
The Fantasy Football Playoffs
During the fantasy football playoffs, in Weeks 15, 16, and 17, Watson has pseudo-advantageous matchups against the Ravens and Commanders. His Week 16 matchup at home against the Saints should definitely be considered a challenge as the Saints allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks last year.
Honestly, it’s been a struggle to see Watson’s legal situation during the past year. Alas, at some point we have to talk about the football side of this matter. With his return to the football field now decided, there isn’t much way to not. It’s no doubt that when playing, Watson is a top-five talent. Him not playing for a full season will lead to questions about his ability to have the rhythm with his teammates in what is a new offensive scheme.
Players to draft in later rounds if you do decide to go with Watson include the following:
Matt Ryan
His early slate includes Houston, Jacksonville (twice), Kansas City, Tennessee, and Denver.
Carson Wentz
Wentz and the Commanders’ first six weeks include Jacksonville, Detroit, Philadelphia, Dallas, Tennessee, and Chicago.
Finally, with Watson being able to only play in 2/3rd of his team’s game, at most, he sits firmly in higher end of the QB2 range this year. This is reflected with his QB16 ranking in our own 2022 fantasy football rankings.
