Dynasty Fantasy Football Sell High Candidates: Tight Ends

Everyone wants that set it and forget it tight end that can be a difference-maker and give them a positional advantage over everyone else in their league and because tight ends usually take a few years to become a productive fantasy starter it can be tricky to know if you found one. When a tight end finally starts producing and has a good season it can also be hard to tell if they are just a one-hit-wonder or if they will be successful for many years. When you do find a great tight it can be difficult to know if and when to sell them. I am going to discuss three tight ends that I feel their value is at their highest and will only go down and are sells right now. A few of these names might surprise you, so let’s get right into these Dynasty Fantasy Football Sell High Candidates: Tight Ends.

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

2021 PPR Finish: TE2 | Age: 32

With how dominant Kelce has been over the last six years it might be hard to see him as a sell. If you are a really strong contending team he might not be someone to sell. However, if your team isn’t then you may want to consider trading him while he is still commanding a high return in value. Kelce will turn 33 one month into the regular season and you wonder just how many more elite seasons he has in him. I believe he has only two seasons before we see a significant decline in his production. We also saw last year how defenses changed the way they played the Chiefs and it affected the passing game. Kelce scored fewer than 14 points in PPR seven times last season and scored 20 or more points just three times! Now there is the addition of JuJu Smith-Schuster in the offense. Is Smith-Schuster an elite wide receiver? No, but Juju is a considerable upgrade over Mecole Hardman and will definitely demand more targets. If you are not a serious contender then you should sell Kelce now before you are left holding the bag.

Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders

2021 PPR Finish: TE17 | Age: 29

Waller finished in the top-three in 2019 and 2020, but in 2021 he only played in 11 games due to knee and back injuries, and out of those 11 games he only scored more than 12 points in PPR in just four of those games. Also in two of the last three seasons, Waller has failed to score more than three touchdowns and now he will have to compete with Davante Adams for targets and touchdowns. Adams is an absolute target hog and was Derek Carr’s teammate in college. So Waller’s age, lack of touchdowns, and the addition of Adams are major concerns for me, and for these reasons he is a sell. I would look to move him before the start of the season before his value takes a hit.

Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills

2021 PPR Finish: TE11 | Age: 25

Dawson Knox had his best season last year which has created some buzz around his name and caused many in the fantasy community to move him up in their rankings. Some think he will continue to take steps forward and move further up in tight end rankings but I am not so sure. In his three seasons in the NFL, Knox has never had 50 receptions or even 600 receiving yards in a single season. Last season nearly one-third of his fantasy points came from touchdowns and I think he will remain touchdown-dependent. Combined this with the emergence of Gabriel Davis in the offense I would be looking to sell. Fantasypros has Knox ranked just above Noah Fant, Mike Gesicki, and Cole Kmet. There is a good chance you can trade Knox for any of them plus something added on to the trade and if so I would do that. It would not surprise me if by this time next year Knox is ranked behind all of them.
