Dynasty Rookie Profile: George Pickens

Showing his impressive athleticism since his freshman year at Georgia, George Pickens put up highlight-reel catches and top-end contested catch skills. His 700-yard freshman campaign was his best season while at Georgia. Issues with quarterback play in a run-first offense, along with a series of minor injuries, Pickens’ 2020 season was one of no real note. Pickens also suffered an ACL tear in the 2021 Spring Game, leaving him on the sidelines for all but a handful of plays during Georgia’s National Championship run.

Athletically, he stands above his competition, even while playing in the SEC.  His frame is perfect for an impact as an X-receiver in the NFL.  Pickens plays the game with intense physicality, with examples of his perfect timing to catch the ball at the highest point and at the ability to break from press coverage at the line of scrimmage, often bullying his man at the point of release.

The Georgia wideout possesses an impressive catch radius and exceptional ball-tracking skills. He displays solid athleticism as a route runner. He can get in and out of his breaks with impressive urgency. He has been guilty of flagrant fouls as well as minor off-the-field incidents, so some questions of maturity have been brought up.  Teams vet this process especially well so unless we see Pickens fall drastically in the draft, it shouldn’t bear much fruit.

Although he returned to the field from an ACL injury, it remains to be seen if he can recover his full athletic ability. If any questions remain over his health, it could impact his stock. Pickens has had pre-Draft visits with the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, both of which own two picks in the last 10 picks of the 1^st round. This does serve as a range for him as most mock drafts have him going between the 20^th & 39^th picks in the NFL Draft.
