Dynasty Rookie Profile: Grayson McCall

Quarterback – Coastal Carolina

6’3, 210 lbs

Strengths

McCall does well stepping into the pocket, delivering passes regardless of whatever pass rush might be in his face. He spreads the ball around the field well and is not afraid to throw it down the middle of the field or outside the numbers. He shows great anticipation dropping the ball into tight windows. Also, he can scoot as a threat in the run game and looks comfortable running the ball. When on the move, he generates plenty of power in his passes to operate the full length of the field while bootlegging.

McCall’s 10.7:1 career touchdown to interception ratio is a great indicator of his ball security.

Weaknesses

While McCall does throw with power, he doesn’t have the zip you would like to deliver and passes deeper down the field. He forces passes at times, other times he skips his secondary reads and goes directly to his last resort. McCall’s accuracy varies more than you would like. Finally, the RPO offense limits the number of reads he needs to make on a given play, something that will need improvement in the NFL.

NFL Draft Capital and NFL Fit

His offensive scheme in college heavily relied on RPO concepts, while this is a part of an NFL offense, most schemes don’t prioritize it to the top of the game plan. I think with all of this in consideration McCall looks like a late Day 2, early Day 3 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. In terms of your dynasty rookie drafts, a late third or early fourth-round selection is likely. However, if his draft capital goes higher, he’s a projected future backup with an outside shot at becoming a starting quarterback.
