Dynasty Rookie Profile: Kayshon Boutte
Wide Receiver – LSU
6’0, 205 lbs
Strengths
Kayshon Boutte has officially announced that he’ll be entering the 2023 NFL Draft. He is one of the best wide receivers in this talented rookie class and has an unbelievable change of direction. His commitment to return to school and then elect to go to the NFL Draft is a premier example of this. Jokes aside, Boutte has shown elite traits in bunches during his time at LSU.
Boutte is a complete receiver prospect all around and profiles as a potential NFL WR1. He has the ability to win in all three depths of the field, as well as, he works well with the ball in his hands after the catch. He has a complete route tree, showing good hips along with footwork to accomplish all his routes efficiently. Additionally, he is a contortionist in the air and makes great adjustments to the ball. He high points the ball with the best of them and has such good eyes when tracking the ball down. Finally, he has the physicality to go against aggressive corners, as well as the top-end speed to have them regret engaging with him.
Weaknesses
On film, Boutte’s work against press coverage will need improvement if he is to become a true number-one receiver in the NFL. His effort will be brought up as well, as sometimes it looks like he isn’t giving 100%. I will push back on this can be difficult when you have a single-read run-first quarterback. He did show some concentration drops this past year as well.
NFL Fit and Draft Capital
Boutte’s shown the potential to be an X receiver in an NFL offense and a primary focal point. This gives him that elite upside that only a couple of prospects in the class share. On the other hand, his best film was two years ago and he didn’t play much at all the year after. Last year’s stat line of 48 catches in 11 games for only 538 yards, isn’t going to impress.
A way to describe Boutte to his school alumni, he is somewhere between Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall. Both had really strong seasons but then the last season before jumping to the NFL was either nonexistent or was to the awe of no one. Testing at the NFL Combine and his draft capital will be more heavily weighted to his spot in this class than other prospects. Really, any team could use him in the NFL and he’ll be a fantastic player to add to your dynasty fantasy football leagues.
Boutte seems to be more popular in the dynasty communities than he is in the NFL Draft communities. Boutte is looking much like a 3rd or 4th Round pick at this point in the NFL Draft. That would have him wavering around the WR10 mark in the class. On the flip side, the dynasty community has been having him around WR4 to WR6. Before the NFL Draft, he’ll be roughly an early second-round pick in rookie drafts. However, after the Draft, look for Boutte to go more so in the middle of the second round or so.
