6’1 205 pounds

2020 stats: 70.9% cmp%, 3,337 passing yards, 29 TD, 14 int; 112 att, 506 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns.

2021 stats: 67.9 cmp%, 3,349 passing yards, 20 TD, 5 int; 152 att, 614 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns.

Coming into the 2021 season, many had Matt Corral as the No.1 overall pick for the 2022 NFL Draft. To this date, some still hold him up there, others have him no worse than five.

Reflecting last season’s stats of 3,343 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, his plus athleticism, awareness, quick release, and accuracy are a few play strengths I like to label Corral with, hence the five interceptions he threw in all of 2021. Not only is he good with his awareness, but he is very lethal on his feet being a tough, powerful runner with his 614 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s a threat at the goal line and can score at any time. Combined with both these skills, he can throw accurately on the run making him a threat to defenses.

A weakness I caught of his was his deep throws. Some were right on but others were inconsistent where either the receiver had to slow down to catch the ball, or was overthrown. This is something that could be coached and not too much of a concern. Coming in at 6’1 could be questionable for some teams, but I think that is the least of teams’ worries as Corral plays bigger than his size.

After a high-ankle sprain in the Sugar Bowl, Matt Corral’s draft stock has been in question. Especially when he didn’t participate in the NFL combine drills. That threw up red flags to some, but you have to remember he was just that 6-8 week time frame from his high ankle sprain. So Why push it?

Last week, that all changed.

Coming into this off-season, I was still high on Matt Corral, even after the Sugar Bowl injury, and on March 23rd during his pro day,  he proved me right. 31 of the 32 NFL teams were in attendance, along with coaching staff from two teams who pick in the top-10.

He looked healthy. Many had questions on how the ankle was healing, but his mobility on it was something that teams can put behind them as he looked comfortable and confident along with being able to move with ease. The intangibles that we loved during his last two seasons showed on his pro day with his quick feet and throwing a deep pass to a wide receiver.

Teams are impressed with his abilities and he has more than likely put himself at the end of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. I’ve seen mocks with him going to the Detroit Lions at pick 32, or falling into the second round to the Lions, Seahawks, or Falcons.

Dynasty Football Twist

In our 1QB Rookie ADP, we have seen Corral go on average at the 2.07, and for those who are in 2QB/SF leagues, you’re looking at the 1.09 range at the moment. Both seem a little high at the moment to some but I feel comfortable with what I have seen tape-wise, and Pro Day-wise. Others will have Willis and Pickett as their QB1 and QB2, but if I had to draft today, I would feel comfortable taking Corral at his current ADP over that of Pickett.
