Dynasty Rookie Profile: Trey McBride

6’3, 249 pounds – Full Combine Results 

The tight end out of Colorado State, Trey McBride, just had himself a season that was head, shoulders, knees, and toes better than his peers. With 90 receptions and 1,121 yards, he was an absolute force on the field. In an offense where he was the primary receiving threat, there was little done to slow him down by opposing defenses. That type of domination appeases the analytics and film crowds each on their own, putting McBride into the category of an absolute draft darling.

He has great size at 6’3 249 pounds, with a thick lower body. In the middle of the field, his physicality at the second and third levels of separation becomes apparent, showing why he was such a reliable target. He is a great athlete that uses his leverage well when the ball is in the air. McBride will give fits to any opposing linebacker that has to keep up with him while dwarfing any defensive back left to cover him for a contested catch. He also has a good understanding of concepts, knowing how to settle into soft spots in zone coverage.

McBride has good, not great YAC ability. He can’t be brought down by smaller corners, but also won’t use many agility-based moves to avoid tackles. His routes are not crisp and he will need to improve sinking his hips at the top of his routes at the next level. His arm length doesn’t appear much of an issue in the receiving game, but it appears more in the run game where his arm length presents limitations.

McBride reminds many of George Kittle as a prospect. With workouts with the Bills, Giants, and Titans, look for McBride to be a top-50 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft with his name possibly being called as early as the late 1^st round.
