Dynasty Rookie Profile: Will Levis
Quarterback – Kentucky
6’3, 232 lbs
Strengths
Levis is good at throwing the ball from various launch points, enabling him to complete the passes. His short release gets the ball out of his hands quickly. He has the arm strength to make all the NFL throws, even deep and near the boundary. Also, he benefits from spending the past two seasons in a pro-style offense. Levis is a threat in the run game, not shying away from contact in order to move the sticks. He has prototypical size at the position and has a relatively light injury history over the past two seasons.
Weaknesses
Levis will need to improve his ball placement, which unfortunately is one of the hardest things to improve at the NFL level. His short release does limit his ability to throw touch passes without giving a proper lead to his receivers. Additionally, the over-reliance on his arm strength leads to some poor decisions for reads. Finally, he doesn’t always take care of the ball, throwing it away as often as he should.
NFL Draft Capital and NFL Fit
Levis is a former Penn State transfer who really promoted his draft profile the past two seasons at Kentucky. In his Junior year, he stood out more than his Senior year as teams were hoping he would build on the previous year, rather than improve on it. The quarterback-starved NFL has decent odds of pushing Levis into the 1st Round of the 2023 NFL Draft, likely a top 20 selection, with a possibility he is pushed up into the top 10. There is talk about him as the first overall pick, and one of the big reasons he may see such a push is due to his 2021 success under former Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen. This will lead teams into the narrative that Levis is ‘pro ready’ due to his experience in the system.
Nonetheless, Levis will need time in a scheme to truly excel at the NFL. That timeframe has me pushing him into the middle to the late second round in rookie drafts. This is largely due to his development being contingent on many ‘ifs’. With this talented 2023 class, there are more players who are more productive, talented, and likely to score fantasy points available at other positions in the draft.
