Dynasty Rookie Profile: Zach Charbonnet

Running Back – UCLA

6’1, 220 lbs

Strengths

Charbonnet is a downhill runner. His burst helps in pushing him quickly to the next level. On his tape, he shows a player with a good feel for the blockers in front of him and maintains amazing contact balance when engaging with tacklers. Additionally, he shows good lower body strength, pushing the pile when in a scrum. Finally, he is effective in the passing game, catching 37 passes in 2022.

Weakness

While he does have some issues with drops, that has been reduced a bit in 2022. He’ll test in the top of 10 and 20-yard splits for the 40-yard dash more so than his time overall. His running strength is questioned as poor Pac-12 defenses may have boosted those numbers.

NFL Draft Capital and NFL Fit

Overall, Charbonnet has shown he has a well-rounded game. From goal-line efficiency, to pass protection and receiving ability in the passing game. He should be drafted by a team with the intention of him being a bell cow back. His ability should see him be drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft and no later than the third.

While his being a Senior should push his value down in rookie drafts, it carries little actual value as running backs with the potential for 20+ carries leaves little room for error. It’s for this reason that Charbonnet should be drafted in the late second round in most of your dynasty rookie drafts. His age will lead to a lot of talks to push his stock down, but opportunity and skillset should not deter you on that matter.
