Many will be looking at this quarterback class as a weak one. We at Faceoff Sports Network even compared Malik Willis to the quarterback class of the 2020 NFL Draft and we were putting Willis at QB5 or QB6. That’s not to say Willis is a bad quarterback. It’s saying the quality of quarterbacks this year is not the strength of the draft. Willis though could be different.

As the gunslinger-only quarterback position is fading, the dual-threat quarterback is growing in the NFL and teams are adapting to it. From Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen, Malik Willis has a chance to be the next quarterback added to the group.

Strength

During his pro-day, the internet went crazy over his 60-yard bomb that landed perfectly in the hand of the receiver. His arm strength is no joke as he has the arm of a Jay Cutler, and it showed. If you’ve ever seen Jay Cutler you would understand. Malik Willis, like Cutler, makes throws that you shouldn’t be able to get away with. His mobility is electric. He can keep a play alive, move around the pocket, escape, and take the ball himself as he turns the jets  like Jalen Hurts

Weakness

Willis is a good quarterback, not great. The lowlights you didn’t see during his pro day were the same things you saw during actual gameplay and that was his depth perception when throwing passes. Some passes were thrown behind the receiver or low where they had to make a shoestring catch.

Another thing that caught my eye was his tapping of the ball. It was something noticed by the scouts, and as I looked at game tapes between the Senior Bowl, highlights, and a couple of game tapes, it was noticed. Going against defenses coming at you in the NFL could lead to more sacks, which helped me understand why he took a massive 51 in the 2021 season. That extra second could mean many hits on Willis. Hopefully, this can be coached out of him.

Quarterback needy teams have been looking at Malik Willis as a first-round quarterback who should be a for sure top-10 pick. Teams like Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Seattle could be one of the teams calling Willis on day 1.

Dynasty Football Spin

In our 2QB/SF Rookie ADP, we have seen Willis going on average at 1.04 and creeping up. For those that are in 1QB, he’s going at 2.01. This makes sense, as the hype around Willis is real, and what fantasy manager doesn’t want a dual-threat quarterback? Willis is my QB1, and where he lands shouldn’t change that. Where he’s being drafted, I feel 100% comfortable with it and I would also be willing to take Willis #1 overall.
