Dynasty Wide Receiver Sell-High Candidates
With the NFL offseason frenzy well underway, we here at the Faceoff Sports Network think it’s time to focus on optimizing your dynasty team! In this article, I’ll talk about some wide receivers that I think you might consider trading in your dynasty football leagues! Not to say these players aren’t valuable, just that I think you can get better value in a trade. Let me know what you think about these Dynasty Wide Receiver Sell-High Candidates.

Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders
2021 PPR Finish: WR10 | Age: 26
Hunter Renfrow had a monster 2021 season and while he is a great football player, I don’t see him coming close to that WR10 finish again. Renfrow was the main beneficiary of being the Raiders’ sole weapon last year as both Darren Waller and Henry Ruggs missed the majority of the season. Just yesterday, Las Vegas made a huge trade, acquiring star wideout Davante Adams from the Packers. This hurts Renfrow’s value more than it helps it, in my opinion. Renfrow ran 460 (65%) routes from the slot last year, while Adams also had almost 200 routes run from the slot.
There’s going to be some learning curve in getting these two aligned to maximize their abilities. Also, in Adams’ five years of being an elite WR (2017-2021), he’s only had a teammate finish as a top 50 WR one time (Cobb WR35 in 2017). Renfrow is still a fine WR3 for now, but I think you can potentially get way more than what he’s worth in a trade. He’s the perfect sell-high candidate.
Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers
2021 PPR Finish: 11 | Age: 29
Keenan Allen stayed healthy in 2021 and put together another very productive year. Allen is undoubtedly one of the best wide receivers of the last five years, but it’s time to sell. He’s about to hit the dreaded 30 years old benchmark, and his team has made some moves that indicate he may not be around much longer. The Chargers gave 27-year-old Mike Williams a brand new 3-Year $60M contract, indicating to me he is the future at the position.
Allen is technically still under contract for three more years, but after this season the Chargers would save $16.3M by cutting him. I think there’s a high likelihood that they do that and sign a younger and cheaper player as their WR2. Remember, Justin Herbert is due for a massive extension soon. The combination of Allen’s age, contract situation, and injury history make him a sell for me, and I’m sure you could get a bigtime return based on his name value and recent productivity.
Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks
2021 PPR Finish: 16| Age: 29
This one’s obvious, I won’t spend too much time on it. Tyler Lockett has been the most frustrating player to own the last few seasons anyway, but now Lockett goes from catching deep balls from Russell Wilson to catching balls from Drew Lock or a rookie quarterback in all likelihood. He’s also approaching 30 and is set for a decline here soon. If I could get a 2nd round pick or any of the receivers in my Dynasty Wide Reciever Buys, I would definitely do that.
Brandin Cooks, Houston Texans
2021 PPR Finish: 20 | Age: 28
Brandin Cooks finally played 16 games for the first time in three years and had a very good year for the Houston Texans. I don’t think his numbers are sustainable, though. He was the only option on offense, as the Texans had zero threats at the running back, wide receiver, or tight end position. In fact, the second-highest targeted player on the Texans had only 60 total targets all season. It’d be very hard for Houston to run out a group worse than the one they ran out there in 2021. His quarterback situation is also terrible, as Deshaun Watson is with Cleveland. With no real answer at quarterback, a smaller target share, approaching 30 years old, and with a long list of previous injuries, he’s an easy sell for me.

Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings
2021 PPR Finish: 28 | Age: 31
It’s no secret that Adam Thielen’s best days are behind him. He’s failed to surpass 1,000 yards in three straight seasons now and has missed significant time due to injury in two of those three seasons. With the emergence of Justin Jefferson, Thielen has been less and less of a focal point in the offense seemingly every week. He’s a likely cap casualty cut candidate after this season as well. At 32 years old, I can’t imagine he’ll get money to be a focal point elsewhere. His time being fantasy relevant is almost completely done, and you should trade him for whatever you can if you can get someone to bite on the name value.
AJ Brown, Tennessee Titans
2021 PPR Finish: 32 | Age: 24
This one may seem odd, but I’ll tell you why you should trade promising wideout, AJ Brown. I don’t think the immediate future looks very appealing for him. Ryan Tannehill got significantly worse last season. He had a 72.6 QBR during Brown’s career year in 2020, which is a statistical outlier for his career. The nine-year vet has a career average QBR of 52.91 and had a 55.9 in 2021. Simply put: his quarterback is not a very good passer. It’s no secret the Titans are a run-first team, as they ranked 26th in pass attempts per game last year (even with superstar running back Derrick Henry missing the majority of the season). Brown plays on a team that doesn’t want to throw the ball, relying on a below-average passer, and has no other pass-catching threat after cutting Julio Jones earlier this week. His situation combined with his recent run of injuries (missed four games in 2021, two in 2020) make him a trade candidate for me. He’s probably the biggest name on the list and probably will get you a king’s ransom in return.
Robert Woods, Los Angeles Rams
2021 PPR Finish: 51 | Age: 29
The Rams made a peculiar move yesterday, signing wide receiver Allen Robinson to a 3-Year $46.5M deal. Adam Schefter reported shortly after that Woods has become a trade candidate, which makes sense given the Rams’ crowded wide receiver room that includes superstar Cooper Kupp, the new Robinson, the exciting Van Jefferson, and 2021 2nd round pick Tutu Atwell. The team is still said to be trying to bring back Odell Beckham Jr as well. Woods, coming off a torn ACL, is almost 30 and likely will be going to a less favorable situation. Woods has averaged just 43 yards per game in four career seasons without Sean McVay, opposed to 68 yards per game with him in five seasons. Sell Woods on the back of the Rams’ Super Bowl hype and high-powered offense.
