FanDuel GPP Picks – Week 8

FanDuel-GPP-Picks-Week-7

I don’t know about you but I feel like the NFL season absolutely flies by and here we are in Week 8 already. We are getting a clearer picture of how each team operates but don’t forget to look at smaller samples (last four weeks) to see who may be emerging as of late. Looking at these smaller sample sizes can sometimes lead to finding a low-owned player or value plays that could dramatically improve your lineups. Here are my favorite players to target in GPP contests on FanDuel this week.

GPP Quarterbacks

Daniel Jones – $7,500

While Jones hasn’t put up passing numbers that are eye-popping thus far it seems he’s getting a bit more comfortable with his receiving group. It also doesn’t hurt that he dumps off to Saquan Barkley a few times a game. Take the aforementioned with the fact that he has some rushing ability and I’ll be happy to put him in my GPP player pool.

Sam Ehlinger – $6,000

This was a coin flip between Tua Tagovailoa or Ehlinger here, but as you can see Ehlinger wins out. Ehlinger gets his first start and lucky for him he faces a WAS defense that allows an average of 18.91 Fanduel points to quarterbacks thus far. Ehlinger also has a respectable run game, solid receiving weapons, and the potential to run the ball a bit which should help the inexperienced quarterback put up some points.

GPP Running backs

Derrick Henry – $10,000

Typically I wouldn’t put a player with a $10,000 price tag in my pool, however, we have enough value to allow it this week. Henry faces a Houston defense that only allowed under 135 yards rushing in two weeks. The first is against the Chargers in Week 4 and the other is their bye week. While I personally will never be confused with an elite athlete I think I could get a few yards against this group. I wish this game was in Tennessee but I guess I can’t have everything.

Kenneth Walker III – $8,400

Walker has more than filled in for Rashaad Penny and over the last two weeks, he’s put up 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last week I wrote up Travis Etienne against this same New York Giants defense and he promptly put up 18.40 Fanduel points. Not to beat a dead horse but the Giants are allowing 5.7 YPC and are ranked 30th in DVOA rushing defense.

Tony Pollard – $6,300

This is pretty simple, Pollard is only $6,300, facing a Chicago Bear defense that’s allowing 4.7 YPC, is ranked 24th rushing DVOA and just traded Robert Quinn from their defense which surely won’t help in stopping Pollard. Dallas is playing home and favored by 10.50 points so Pollard should get some run late in the game which usually helps pad those stats.

GPP Wide receivers

DeAndre Hopkins – $7,900

Hopkins came back from suspension and was peppered with 14 targets which translated into 10 catches and 103 yards receiving, If last week was an indication as to how Hopkins lines up he should see some more time in the slot which will benefit him. Arizona plays the Minnesota Vikings which should provide plenty of scoring by both teams.

Jaylen Waddle – $7,800

This is a preference pick here. If you like Tyreek Hill more than Waddle and have the salary available, Hill is also a great option. The important part is that you have exposure to this game and more specifically this passing game. Some will also have Raheem Mostert in their lineup which could also prove to be fruitful. I lean slightly toward Waddle so I’ll add him to the player pool.

DJ Moore – $6,200

Moore was again involved in the offense last week and while I’m not chasing points here I do feel that Atlanta is a great opponent to face to get back on track. Atlanta is allowing over 300 yards passing each week and has allowed 13 receiving touchdowns this season. With Christian McCaffrey shipped to San Francisco, there are touches available for the taking. I think Moore will continue if not increase in target share going forward.

GPP Tight Ends

TJ Hockenson – $6,300

Hockenson doesn’t put up numbers on a consistent basis but when the stars align, he is more than capable of putting up #1 TE fantasy points (see Week 4 vs Seattle). Detroit comes in as home underdogs and MIA is allowing 9 fantasy points to teams TE 1 on the season thus far. I think Hockenson is capable of putting up a stat line similar to 8/100/1 so I’ll have some exposure to him this week.

Irv Smith Jr. – $5,000

Minnesota has solid Vegas data and is playing at home against Arizona who has allowed tight ends to score seemingly at will with 4 tight ends scoring 13.50 or higher over their first seven weeks. Minnesota passes over 63% of the time and Smith is averaging almost 5 targets per game. While there are other options for Cousins to throw to Smith should provide enough for what we need for a GPP.

GPP Defense/Special Teams

Indianapolis Colts – $3,900

First off, I’m not a Colts fan though looking at the article one may think so. The Colts face the Washington Commanders and backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke at home. Those are both (backup quarterback & home) pros when I’m selecting a defense. While I think this game hits the over I believe that will be primarily because the Colts score more than projected. I’ve already spent too much time explaining the pick but they also come in at only $3,900.

GPP Stacks

Indianapolis Colts vs Washington Commanders

Sam Ehlinger gets the start this week and we touched on him above. The Commanders have allowed almost 19 Fanduel points per game to quarterbacks. The only one who scored less than 15 points was Ryan Tannehill and the Titans leaned on Derrick Henry that week to the tune of 26.20 FanDuel points. Now, who do we stack him with? I think our best options are Michael Pittman Jr, Paris Campbell, and a complete dart throw at tight end with Jelani Woods. This stack even if you went with both wide receivers is projected to have under 15% total ownership so getting different won’t be needed elsewhere.

Miami Dolphins vs Detroit Lions

Looking at this game and the total passing game (QB/WR1/WR2/WR3/TE1) projected ownership there is a 26% difference in favor of Miami. We surely won’t be as different here but going with Jared Goff and Amon Ra St. Brown with a runback of Waddle gets us some exposure to both sides of the passing game at significantly lower ownership than if we stack the Miami side runback with St. Brown. Goff is at home and he’s just a different quarterback at home.
