Now that we are almost through the first half of the season, fantasy players have a clearer picture of their dynasty teams. When everyone has a 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2 record after Week 2, it’s easy to say you’re team is a contender regardless of the record. However, that isn’t the case now.

The 2022 NFL season is flashing right before our eyes, and several players have seen a rise or fall in their fantasy value. Younger players have shown superstar potential, while others have struggled to earn playing time. Some veteran players are showing signs of regression, while others remain the fantasy stars they were last season.

While everyone loves a buy low and sell high article, I’m focusing on four players I would consider trading for or trading away. Some of these players will be buy low and sell high candidates, while others will be buy high and sell low candidates.

As always, feel free to DM me on Twitter (@Mike_NFL2) with trade questions specific to your fantasy league.

*All stats in this article are based on half-point PPR scoring.

Buy: Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets & Javonte Williams, RB, Denver Broncos

Injuries are the worst part of the game of football. Unfortunately, two of the brightest young running backs had their 2022 season cut short because of a torn ACL. Hopefully, both Hall and Williams are ready for Week 1 of the 2023 season. While their injuries are unfortunate, it has created an opportunity for fantasy players to trade for them.

Rebuilding teams with these young running backs are unlikely to trade them. However, contending teams might be open to trading away Hall or Williams for a veteran running back who can help them win this year. They won’t trade away the young running backs for Ezekiel Elliott or Leonard Fournette. But they might trade them for Alvin Kamara or Austin Ekeler. While you might say, “there is no chance they trade Hall or Williams,” there is no harm in asking. If you have a rebuilding team and an older running back on the roster, try trading for one of these two young stars.

Buy: Daniel Bellinger, TE, New York Giants

Speaking of injuries and their impact on emerging stars, the Giants might have their starting tight end for the next several years in Bellinger. The rookie tight end was becoming a critical part of New York’s passing attack before suffering an eye injury last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 16 targets over the previous four games, the most on the team during that span. Furthermore, Bellinger had at least three targets in every game.

More importantly, the Giants have used the rookie as their all-around tight end. His snaps played increased every game until he suffered the eye injury last week. Furthermore, Bellinger led all tight ends on the team in snaps played in all but one game over the first six weeks this season. Unlike quarterbacks and running backs, we’ve seen tight ends drafted in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft turn into fantasy stars. Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, George Kittle, and Darren Waller were drafted in the third round or later. Yet, all four have finished as a top-three tight end at least once in their career. Maybe Bellinger is the next superstar tight end.

Sell: Dalvin Cook, RB, Minnesota Vikings

The veteran running back struggled at the start of the 2022 season. Cook averaged only 4.1 yards per rushing attempt and nine fantasy points per game over the first two games this season. While he didn’t look like his usual explosive self, Cook has bounced back since. Over the past four games, the veteran has averaged 17 rushing attempts for 85.8 yards (5.1 yards per rushing attempt) and 15.8 fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he has four touchdowns during the span despite playing with a shoulder injury.

While he has played well lately, Cook doesn’t have a 100-yard rushing performance this season. Furthermore, his 13.5 fantasy points per game average this year is the second-lowest in his career. Thanks to his improved play in Week 3 through Week 6, Cook was only the RB10 during that span. However, his days as an elite running back appear to be over, and it’s only a matter of time until the veteran’s production falls off a cliff. More importantly, the Vikings can save roughly $8 million in cap space by moving on from Cook in the offseason. Rebuilding teams or contenders with plenty of running back depth should move on from the former superstar.

Sell: Josh Jacobs, RB, Las Vegas Raiders

Now hear me out before you show up at my front door with pitchforks like an angry mob. Yes, the veteran running back is playing the best football of his career, but that also means his trade value has never been higher. Over the past three games, Jacobs has averaged 27.3 touches for 174.3 scrimmage yards, two touchdowns, and 31.6 fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he has scored 32, 27.8, and 35 fantasy points in his past three outings. However, Jacobs has never put together back-to-back 20 fantasy point performances in his career until now.

The idea of trading away the star running back might be hard to accept. However, Jacobs won’t keep up this level of play for the rest of the year. He is on pace for 371 touches for 2,193 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns, all of which would shatter his previous career highs. Those numbers would meet or beat Derrick Henry’s best year in 2020 (397 touches for 2,141 yards and 17 touchdowns). It is only a matter of time until Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow, Darren Waller, and Derek Carr all get on the same page. Once that happens, Jacob’s volume will regress. Now is the time to trade him away for a king’s ransom.
