Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Week 7

Fantasy-Baseball-Waiver-Wire-Week-7

We’re back with the Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire for Week 7. We are already halfway through May and have seen a lot of Minor League call-ups. Unfortunately, injuries are happening all over the place. However, staying on top of the waiver wire and monitoring your league-mates adds and drops will go a long way.

Last week, I covered some popular players to add off the waiver wire, and some of those players might still be available. If you missed it, check it out here and make sure you didn’t miss anyone. Let’s get right into my advice for waiver wire priorities this week in the 2023 fantasy baseball season.

Waiver Wire Pitchers

Eury Perez, SP, Miami Marlins

Eury Perez is making his highly anticipated debut on Friday against the Reds. Perez is a 20-year-old highly anticipated prospect to make his debut. Perez has a lot of upside and needs to be added in all formats. Additionally, he is 6’8 and has the tools of a Major League ace. His strikeout ability is high, and he has great control. Also, Miami is able to develop pitchers. Overall, Perez is a must-add off the waiver wire this week.

Bailer Ober, SP, Minnesota Twins

Bailey Ober has been lights out since he has been called up. He has started four games and has thrown 24.1 innings. He has a spectacular 1.85 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP. Furthermore, he has struck out 22 batters and two quality starts.

With Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda out for the long term, Ober should stick in the rotation for the remainder of the season.

Louie Varland, SP, Minnesota Twins

Louie Varland may have a long-term spot in the rotation with Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda out for the foreseeable future. He has started three games so far and thrown 16.2 innings. Additionally, he has a 4.32 ERA and has struck out 20 batters. Overall, he has two quality starts.

Varland is a deep league option as he can give up some runs, but he has shown the ability to miss bats. If you need to start 9 pitchers or more, he is a good option for one of those later arms.

JP France, SP, Houston Astros

JP France is up as a result of Jose Urquidy’s season-ending injury. With Lance McCullers not ready yet, JP France gets the call. In his debut, France threw five scoreless innings while striking out five batters. However, it’s unknown how long France will be up. You have to figure the Urquidy injury keeps Hunter Brown in the rotation long-term. In the end, it’ll be interesting to see how the Astros handle McCullers. But for now, France is the name to keep an eye on.

Will Smith, RP, Texas Rangers

If Will Smith is available somehow in your league, and you need a closer, this is a no-brainer. Clearly, Will Smith has won the starting job in Texas. He currently has seven saves this season to go with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Additionally, he has 18 strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched this season. All that being said, he seems to have a lot of job security in his role.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitters

Casey Schmitt, 3B, San Francisco Giants

The hitter waiver wire gem of the week is Casey Schmitt. Schmitt has played in three games and has two home runs and four RBIs. During that time, he is batting a ridiculous .667. While Brandon Crawford is expected back soon, Schmitt has the ability to play throughout the infield. The Giants could stick him at shortstop making him both corner and middle infield eligible. While this pace may not be sustainable, Schmitt is showing he needs to be picked up in deeper leagues.

Ezequiel Tovar, SS, Colorado Rockies

The rookie Ezequiel Tovar started the season off slow, but as of late has been heating up. He is batting over .300 over his last 10 games and has the Coors Field ability. Additionally, Tovar has 2 home runs this season with 16 RBIs and a stolen base. Tovar came into this season as a popular later pick for the middle infield. Now, his recent hot streak is showing that he needs to be rostered in all formats.

Jorge Soler, OF, Miami Marlins

Looking for a sleeper power hitter? Jorge Soler is the player to add off the waiver wire this week. Soler put up a season with 48 home runs back in 2019, and has that potential. This season he is already up to 9 home runs with 20 RBIs. While he is only batting .235, it’s the power that makes him a great addition in all formats and roster sizes. Overall, Soler has the ability to hit 30 to 40 home runs this season and is very well possible to be on your waiver wire.

Orlando Arcia, 2B, Atlanta Braves

Orlando Arcia is back from the injury which means Vaughn Grissom is being sent back to the Minors. Additionally, Arcia is currently batting .339 this season with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. He is most likely available on waivers and is off to a hot start this week.

The second base position is very shallow this season, making Arcia a very good addition if you can grab him. In his first two games back, he went 5 for 8 with 2 doubles, a run and an RBI. Arcia is certainly someone I’d recommend considering on the waiver wire for your fantasy baseball teams this week.

Christopher Morel, OF, Chicago Cubs

Christopher Morel got the call-up this week to the Chicago Cubs. He was crushing it in AAA batting .330 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs, and stole 4 bases. Now, in two games with the Cubs, Morel has a home run and 3 RBIs. Additionally, he has a stolen base and is batting .500. Needless to say, Morel is a great addition in deeper leagues, especially five-outfielder formats.

Minor League Stashes

Matthew Liberatore, SP, St. Louis Cardinals

I put Matthew Liberatore on here every week. He is crushing it in AAA and has nothing left to prove there. Additionally, he has started seven games and has a 2.77 ERA. Liberatore had a great Spring showing with the Cardinals and is racking up strikeouts in the minors. If you have space to stash, this is a good one. Personally, I believe he will be a very popular waiver wire add once called up.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 3B, Cincinnati Reds

Another popular name is Christian Encarnacion-Strand of the Cincinnati Reds. Once he is called up expect FAAB and waivers to go all over the place. All he did was hit home runs in the Spring and is heating up in the Minor Leagues right now. Additionally, he is batting .352 with 8 home runs. He should be up very soon for the Reds. Add Encarnacion-Strand now if you can and stay a step ahead of your league-mates.
