NFL Week 2 Forecast

Plenty of games to go around today and the weather should cooperate for pretty much every game. So far, only two games have any remote threat of weather, so needless to say, we should be in good shape for game scripts to remain intact, in the case of weather impacts at least. Here’s the outlook for every game on the Sunday slate:

Miami Dolphins vs Baltimore Ravens

The best weather on the entire slate may reside in Baltimore with temperatures only expected to be in the 70s with a light breeze and full sunshine. Weather will play no role in this one, so those attending and with fantasy purposes should rest easy.

Weather Score (Out of 10): 10

New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns

Another banner day is expected for the Jets/Browns game with temperatures in the upper 70s and full sunshine. Winds will be a little breezy out of the southwest, but this will play little to no role in game impact. A beautiful day for football by the lake.

Weather Score: 10

Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants

East Rutherford, NJ will be rocking as the Giants have their home opener with Christian McCaffery, Baker Mayfield, and Co. coming to town. Weather will not be an issue for this one as temperatures in the upper-70s and mostly sunny skies will make for superb conditions for what should be an entertaining football game. No issues for this contest.

Weather Score: 10

New England Patriots vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Stop me if you’ve heard this before; on paper, another gorgeous day for football in the Steel City as the New England Patriots come knocking in what should be a defensive brawl. Conditions will be prime with highs in the mid-70s and light winds that will keep playing conditions in Pittsburgh at a premium. No issues with this one.

Weather Score: 10

Indianapolis Colts vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The first sub-par forecast lands us in Northeast Florida as the Colts and Jags square off in a divisional showdown. A weak area of low pressure will meander off the Florida coast, allowing for a persistent northeast wind and scattered showers and thunderstorms rotating off the Atlantic. Current model guidance isn’t showing a washout by any means, but the chance for some rain will be elevated throughout the game. Humid conditions are the most likely impact in the game with cloudy skies and temperatures only in the mid-70s for much of the afternoon. Wet field conditions could lead to ball security issues, but heavy rainfall is not expected unless impacted by a thunderstorm. At that point, the game would be delayed, so it’s not as high of an impact as it could be. Overall, it’s a light to moderate impact pending the rainfall. At least it’s not like the slop fest last week in Chi-town.

Weather Score: 5

Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers

This is the game that was trending to have the highest impact, but we may have caught a break for this showdown by the Bay. A rogue area of low pressure has slid down the Pacific coast and will park off the Northern California coast this morning through at least tomorrow. A persistent onshore flow from the southeast will lead to scattered showers rotating off the Pacific into the Bay area. The forecast from a few days ago looked much worse, but the low center is going to be just far enough to the west to keep the worst of the rainfall potential to the north of the stadium with eyes on the city limits and the Northern Bay area. Still, rainfall will be likely and continue in an on-and-off fashion throughout the day with temperatures stuck in the 60s.

There should be some light to moderate impact with regard to football and ball-handling as conditions on the field should be wet to some degree. Unless we see some kind of persistent moderate to heavy rainfall, I’m not forecasting a slop-fest. I’m sure the 49ers are happy to see the forecast changed from what could’ve been a few days ago. Positive trends FTW!

Weather Score: 4

Houston Texans vs Denver Broncos

Weather across the Mile High City will be very nice for the game, albeit a little warm compared to normal. Temperatures will reside in the 80s for the game’s entirety with full sunshine. There will be no impact to speak of here as Russell Wilson takes the field for the first time at his new home stadium.

Weather Score: 9

Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers

The friendly confines of Lambeau field will be not so friendly on the grid iron in terms of the gameplay as these hated foes square off in another classic Sunday Night showcase. The weather will be overcast, but it’ll be much better compared to what will likely occur off to the south. A complex of storms will develop across Iowa and Northern Illinois late this afternoon and sweep east-southeast, impacting the Chicago area and surrounding burbs during the game. Up to the north in Lambeau, we’ll remain on the drier side, but there is a non-zero chance of a rogue shower zipping by in the flow. Overall, the game will remain in a lower impact scenario with temperatures in the 70s at the start, falling into the 60s by the game’s end. We’ve definitely had the worst games played in Green Bay. I think both teams will manage fine.
