2024 Fantasy Football Recap – Top 10 TE Performances
In this fantasy football recap of the 2024 season, we take a look back at the year’s top 10 TE performances of the season and highlight the players who helped win league championships. Hopefully, you hoisted your trophy. However, even if you came up short, these standout moments made the fantasy season unforgettable.
Interestingly enough, the TE1 for the season (Weeks 1-17) George Kittle, did not have one single entry in this top 10 list. However, he did have two top weekly performances from the 18 regular season games. Unfortunately, that was just not high enough to make it on this list.
Another note of interest is how Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce does not have one single top-10 performance. Perhaps, this is the end of the future Hall of Famer’s dominance among his tight end brethren.
Furthermore, this is also the first positional top 10 performance list for 2024 where each entry is from a different player. If that doesn’t show the true volatility of the tight end position, then I don’t know what will. Continue reading to check out these top 10 TE performances of the season.
Top 10 TE Performances: 2024 Fantasy Football Recap
In this article, I’ll take a look at the top 10 fantasy tight end performances from the 2024 NFL season.
Disclaimer – All the data is from FantasyPros and 1/2 PPR scoring is used. Let’s get right into the top 10 TE performances from 2024.
10. Week 12 – Noah Gray at Carolina Panthers (20.6 pts)
Okay, raise your hand if you had Noah Gray and not Travis Kelce on your bingo card for a top 10 tight end weekly performance from a Kansas City tight end. Yeah, neither did I. In this Week 12 game, Gray had four receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Moving forward, if Kelce retires, will Gray step into the starting role? Needless to say, the starting tight end for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid is a prominent one. More importantly, it’s one that could lead Gray onto many fantasy football rosters next season.
9. Week 6 – Cole Kmet vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (21.5 pts)
In Week 6, Cole Kmet had five receptions, 70 yards, and two touchdowns against the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars. Notably, this game alone accounted for 22.5% of Kmet’s production. In fact, two games this season accounted for just over 44% of Kmet’s fantasy season.
For the most part, Kmet was unstartable this season and most likely had his best game on your bench. More than likely, he’s someone you used as a streaming option or spent some FAAB on a few weeks into the season.
8. Week 1 – Isaiah Likely at Kansas City Chiefs (21.6 pts)
This was the first game of the 2024 regular season on Thursday Night Football. The defending champions Kansas City Chiefs versus the team they knocked out in the AFC Championship game last season, the Baltimore Ravens. Needless to say, the stage could not have been bigger for either team.
Ultimately, the Chiefs won 27-20. However, Isaiah Likely had a phenomenal performance with nine receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns. After this game, everyone seemed to be passing the torch from teammate Mark Andrews to Likely. The amount of FAAB that was spent on Likely after Week 1 must have been astronomical. I know it was in the leagues I played in.
Well, Likely didn’t come close to matching this game for the rest of the season. In fact, this game accounted for 22.2% of his fantasy production for the year. In the end, Andrews finished as the TE5 while Likely ended as the TE16 on the year.
It is extremely hard to not overreact after one weekly performance. Especially one that was the first game of the NFL season against the defending champions. However, Andrews is still clearly a huge piece of this offense and is probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
7. Week 3 – Dallas Goedert at New Orleans Saints (22 pts)
A.J. Brown was out of the lineup for the Philadelphia Eagles this week. History has shown, that when one of Brown or DeVonta Smith is not playing, Dallas Goedert tends to produce quite handsomely. With both wide receivers in the lineup, Goedert is an easy weekly fade.
In Week 3, Goedert caught 10 passes for 170 yards. Unfortunately, he did miss seven games this season with various injuries. However, this game alone represented almost 30% of his fantasy football production.
6. Week 5 – Tucker Kraft at Los Angeles Rams (22.8 pts)
Heading into the 2024 season, most fantasy football analysts were not sure which of the two Packers’ sophomore tight ends would emerge as the clear TE1 in Green Bay. Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave are both talented players who can pop off on any given week. Oddly enough, this is quite similar to the wide receiver situation in Green Bay.
A Week 4 ankle injury to Musgrave helped to open the door for Kraft. In Week 5, he seized control of the position by posting four receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns and never looked back. That was good for the sixth-best tight end performance of the season.
5. Week 17 Trey McBride at Los Angeles Rams (24.3 pts)
This was the week where Trey McBride finally caught a receiving touchdown. Up until Week 17, McBride only scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery in Week 2 and a rushing touchdown in Week 9. In Week 17 he had 12 receptions for 123 yards and finally caught a receiving touchdown.
Considering McBride only had one receiving touchdown, it is truly remarkable that he finished the season as the TE3. Notably, only 15.6 fantasy points behind the TE1, Kittle.
Since entering the league in 2022, McBride has only scored six touchdowns. Will he experience some positive touchdown regression in 2025 and contend to be the TE1 or will he continue to be allergic to the end zone? Only time will tell. Either way, he is clearly one of the safest tight end options in fantasy football.
4. Week 9 Mike Gesicki vs.Las Vegas Raiders (24.5 pts)
Against the Raiders in Week 9, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals scored 41 points. Logically, when seeing 41 points in the box score you must have assumed that either Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, or Chase Brown had a big fantasy football performance. That wasn’t the case this week, it was Mike Gesicki.
Gesicki torched the Raiders for five receptions, 100 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. This one game accounted for almost 25% of Gesicki’s yearly fantasy production. Other than this game, he only hit double-digit fantasy points twice.
3. Week 8 Cade Otton vs. Atlanta Falcons (24.6 pts)
Without wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense, Cade Otton became Baker Mayfield’s go-to guy. Against the Falcons in Week 8, he caught an impressive nine receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
Once Evans returned to the lineup in Week 12, Otton became an afterthought and did not reach double-digit fantasy points for the rest of the season. This should make him a late-round TE option in 2025.
2. Week 13 Brock Bowers at Kansas City Chiefs (25.2 pts)
Brock Bowers had a sensational rookie campaign. Impressively, he broke the record for most receptions and most receiving yards by a rookie tight end. In Week 13 against the Chiefs, Bowers was able to showcase his talents and demonstrate why he may be the TE1 in fantasy for the foreseeable future. In this game, Bowers caught 10 receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown.
If you count Week 18 (I don’t for fantasy), Bowers in fact was the TE1 for the 2024 season. Regardless, Bowers will easily be in contention for the TE1 next year and for years to come. More than likely, he’s your dynasty fantasy football TE1 right now.
1. Week 11 Taysom Hill vs. Cleveland Browns (38.5 pts)
In Week 11 against the Browns, Taysom Hill demonstrated why he is known as “The Human Swiss Army Knife”. He rushed seven times for 138 and three touchdowns to go along with eight receptions and 50 receiving yards.
Interestingly enough, it wasn’t his ability as a quarterback that helped his fantasy performance this week. Notably, he only completed one pass for 18 yards to go along with one interception.
This performance by Hill was one that was talked about by the fantasy community for days. Because of the general weakness of the tight end position this year, some analysts were pegging Hill as a top-five tight end for the remainder of the season. Unfortunately, Hill missed the final five weeks of the season.
Finally, Hill’s duo eligibility as a tight end and a quarterback on certain fantasy platforms will always make him an intriguing weekly option at the tight end slot. In the end, he had the top TE performance of 2024 and reminded everyone of the ceiling that he offers for fantasy football purposes.
