Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Mac Jones, New England Patriots

Mac Jones had a fair game last week against the Steelers going 21 of 35 for 252 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Patriots’ offense seemed a little more up to speed than in Week 1. This week they face the Ravens who are giving up 379 yards per game through the air.

Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

One last shot for those Fields’ truthers out there. He’s got the legs to make things happen, a stud receiver in Darnell Mooney who’s just itching to explode, and a very favorable Houston defense to exploit. If Fields doesn’t perform well this week, I’m going to be out on him for the rest of 2022.

Sit ‘Em

Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos

Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense did not look good last week. Might be more Nathaniel Hackett than Wilson himself, but it did not look good. They face the 49ers this week, potentially without Jerry Jeudy, who are giving a league-leading 142 yards per game through the air.

Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders

All good things must come to an end, like the hot start from Carson Wentz. Philadelphia was punishingly efficient against the Vikings on Monday night, holding Kirk Cousins to a 58.7% completion percentage, just one score, and nabbing three picks. Wentz doesn’t have the same gallery of prime pass catchers as Cousins and will mightily struggle against their divisional rivals.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Damien Harris, New England Patriots

Both Patriots running backs are getting enough play to be fantasy-relevant, but Damien Harris is getting just a bit more run. He’s averaging 4.96 YPC as opposed to Rhamondre Stevenson’s 4.24 YPC. With the struggles that Baltimore has displayed on defense, both ball carriers should do well, with the extra push going to Harris and his more frequent usage.

Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans

Dameon Pierce’s workload in Houston has gradually been ticking up and with it his production. While not amazing numbers, Pierce had 15 rushes for 69 yards which is a solid 4.6 YPC. I see his usage to continue to climb against a leaky Bears defense that gave up 203 rushing yards last week.

Sit ‘Em

Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins

In the very nebulous Dolphins backfield, I don’t think you can trust anyone at this point. Mostert is listed as the starter, but that seems to rotate week to week. Buffalo has been stingy against the run, only giving up 25 yards to Derrick Henry and 66 yards per game. I don’t expect much from Mostert this week

A.J. Dillon, Green Bay Packers

I was high on A.J. Dillon last week against Chicago, but Tampa Bay is a completely different monster. The Buccaneers have been as stout as anyone, limiting opposing running backs to just 73 rushing yards per game. With a significant split between Dillon and Aaron Jones’ rushing attempts, there’s not going to be a lot of opportunity for either back to shine.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots

The connection between Jakobi Meyers and Mac Jones is something special. In their last seven games together, regular and postseason Meyers has seen at least eight targets in six of those games and caught at least six passes in five of them. With the epic passing numbers that the Ravens allowed to Miami in Week 2, I expect a big Week 3 for Meyers. Even if he doesn’t score a touchdown.

Allen Robinson, Los Angeles Rams

Allen Robinson had a much better week two game than the previous week, bringing in four passes for 53 yards and a touchdown while being on the field for nearly 92% of offensive plays. The Rams play the Cardinals this week, which should go a long way in developing Matthew Stafford and Robinson’s chemistry.

Sit ‘Em

Jahan Dotson, Washington Commanders

It seems like Dotson is starting to come into his own as a rookie wide receiver, but this is not the week to start him. The Eagles defense shut down Kirk Cousins and the talented Viking wide receivers with Darius Slay getting two interceptions. I would wait another week before throwing Dotson into your starting lineup.

Christian Kirk, Jacksonville Jaguars

With the exception of Davante Adams, no wide receiver has surpassed 50 receiving yards against the Chargers in 2022. Christian Kirk is talented, but he’s no Adams. Although he has been great to start the season, this Week 3 matchup could stunt his performance significantly.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills

Dawson Knox is a solid pass catcher on, arguably, the most potent offense in the NFL. In five career games against Miami, he has averaged 15.1 yards per reception and scored in two of the three matchups in Miami. This is a matchup I’ve been salivating for to see the potential that Knox will deliver.

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

I’m going to call on Tyler Higbee once again this week, as he continues to be Matthew Stafford’s second option in the passing game hauling in seven receptions for 71 yards against the Falcons. As I mentioned before, the Cardinals have not been good against the pass this season, and I’m expecting a good tight end performance once again from Higbee.

Sit ‘Em

Albert Okwuegbunam, Denver Broncos

This is more about the 49ers’ defense and the ineptitude of the Broncos’ offense than Albert Okwuegbunam himself. In their matchup against the Seahawks, the 49ers only gave up four receptions for 11 yards to tight ends last week. Okwuegbunam also saw a significant dip in usage last week only saw two targets when he had six the week prior. I’m staying away from just about everyone on the Broncos this week.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pat Freiermuth put up a couple of solid fantasy performances to start the season. He faces a more difficult challenge in Week 3 against the long-time rival Browns. Last week, Tyler Conklin only averaged 6.7 YPR against Cleveland. If you can pick up Irv Smith Jr. or Higbee, I’d definitely roll with either of them over Freiermuth.
