Fantasy Impact: Bengals Offseason

The Cincinnati Bengals came into the off-season with one goal, to better protect their franchise quarterback Joe Burrow and they did just that. Last season Burrow was sacked 51 times in the regular season and another 19 times in the post-season.

So this off-season Cincinnati wasted no time in bolstering the offensive line by going out and signing C Ted Karras, Alex Cappa, and RT La’el Collins. They also signed TE Hayden Hurst formerly of the Falcons. Let’s dive into these off-season signings and what they mean for fantasy, starting with Burrow.

Joe Burrow

These additions to the offensive line are sure to put a smile on Burrow’s face after spending more time last season on his back than a pornstar. Now he will get to spend more time looking downfield which will lead to some bigger plays for Ja’Marr Chase and  Tee Higgins.

If these additions to the offensive line can give Burrow some extra time in the pocket and keep him upright it could help push him into that top 3 quarterback discussion in dynasty. Burrow has the talent and weapons around him to win fantasy championships.

Joe Mixon

This is also great news for Joe Mixon.

The additions along the offensive front should open up some nice running lanes for Mixon and allow him to get to the second level of defenses and rack up some serious yards. Teams are going to put a lot of attention and effort into stopping the passing attack of the Bengals which will lead to Mixon seeing a lot of light defensive fronts.

Last season he finished as a top 5 running back and I don’t see any reason why he can’t do it again. This could end up being Mixon’s best season and makes him a darkhorse to finish as THE #1RB.

Hayden Hurst

Hayden Hurst is a former first-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens who spent the last two seasons in Atlanta. There are a lot of mouths to feed with Chase, Higgins, Boyd, and Mixon so I don’t envision Hurst seeing a ton of targets.

However, I do think he is going to see a lot of light coverage and plenty of targets in the red zone. I see Hurst finishing the season as a mid TE2 with high-TE2 upside if he can take advantage of his opportunities in the red zone.
