Free Agent Quarterbacks: Landing Spots and Fantasy Values
You may not be excited this year as the free agent quarterbacks aren’t much to grasp for. Are they league winners or have weekly upside to give you enough to give you the weekly win you look for? Maybe not so much. However, there is plenty of value out there, especially if you’re in Superflex or 2QB leagues, and landing in the right spot could give some of these quarterbacks a nice bump in value. I have a few you should be looking to add to your fantasy teams, especially if you are in win-now mode here in Free Agent Quarterbacks: Landing Spots and Fantasy Values.
Jameis Winston, QB, New Orleans Saints
Age: 28
Starting out the 2021 season as the starter for New Orleans, Jameis Winston started off as more of a game manager. This was a big change from the gunslinger who was throwing 1:1 touchdowns to interceptions in Tampa Bay. Maybe the Lasik eye surgery worked as Winston was able to control turning over the ball as he only had three interceptions with his 14 touchdown passes. He still showed that acceleration with running the ball too, running it 32 times for 166 yards and another touchdown. Week 5 we got to see the Winston we all loved as he threw four touchdowns and was looking on the up as a starter for the Saints. That was all derailed in Week 8 against the Buccaneers when he got tackled awkwardly and tore his ACL. As free agency is around the corner, videos are coming out with Winston running, digging, and throwing the ball. If all goes well, he should be viewed no worse than a QB2. He’ll see a nice bump in value if he lands in the right spot.
Potential landing spots: New Orleans Saints or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mitchell Trubisky, QB, Buffalo Bills
Age: 28
The former second overall pick will more than likely be on the move. Compared to this rookie class, Trubisky is a better NFL quarterback than the rookie options. He took a gamble in himself and sat a year behind Josh Allen. He’s not even close to Allen, but he’s potentially just as mobile as him. He will be a starter on an NFL team in 2022 and should be viewed as a QB2.
Potential landing spots: Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, or New York Giants.
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Denver Broncos
Age: 29
The ultimate game manager. Teddy Bridgewater never really wowed us after he left the New Orleans Saints. From Carolina Panthers to the Denver Broncos, he just looked like the same quarterback. He could sign a cheap deal and stay as a bridge piece with the Broncos, or be that in-between piece somewhere else. I’m viewing Bridgewater as a low-end QB2.
Potential landing spots: Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans, or New York Jets.
Marcus Mariota, QB, Las Vegas Raiders
Age: 28
Year in and year out, we all expected Marcus Mariota to leave the Las Vegas Raiders and be a starter somewhere. That didn’t pan out last season as he signed a one-year contract to stay with the Raiders. Derek Carr didn’t get hurt or miss any time, but the Raiders did try some trick plays to get Mariota involved. Mariota has the chance to be a starter, but will more likely get backup duties on another team. QB3 is where I have him capped at.
Potential landing spots: Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, or Chicago Bears.
This free agent quarterback class isn’t strong but has potential. Don’t agree with me, or view a quarterback I missed high, please find me on Twitter @RyanMiner_FFB. I would love to have further discussions with all of you!
